Performs and assists in providing technical and subject matter expertise in payroll processing functions and validation of payroll; including but not limited to, entry and maintenance of time keeping edits, adjustments, voluntary deductions, involuntary deductions, and review/analysis of applicable payroll reports. Ensures payroll accuracy and employee satisfaction for all payrolls. Multi-skilled in payroll knowledge and payroll applications being used to capture information and process payroll also offers training and guidance to others. Additionally, this position assists the Supervisor/Manager in providing guidance to payroll staff (internal and external) and performs some of the more complex payroll functions and leads assigned projects. Able to complete assignments and tasks with limited supervision.

  • Acts as a resource to Payroll Production staff (internal and external); providing guidance and assistance with all areas of payroll production: including but not limited to systems navigation, validation, training, compliance, instruction, policy and procedures.
  • Develops resolutions to complex problems and escalations by using knowledge of policies and procedures and utilizing good judgement in interpretation of the situation and execution of a resolution. Is fully competent in payroll related items needed for resolution and works independently or with limited supervision. Anticipates change and directs or redirects efforts. Alerts upper management as appropriate.
  • Meets deadlines with limited direction when working on payroll validation and processing to ensure accurate payroll results.
  • Completes tasks/projects by knowing or being able to follow established procedures and instructions provided. Using professional judgement on analyzing data and ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks/projects.

Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

Education/Training -

  • Advanced education preferred, but not required
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Typically requires 5 years payroll processing experience in a large/complex payroll environment

Business Experience -

  • Preferred Certified Payroll Profession (FPC, CPP)
  • Leadership/Team Lead experience preferred
  • Experience in full cycle and multi-state payroll
  • Working knowledge of Workday (2+ year minimum), Kronos, and ADP garnishments and banking

Specialized Knowledge/Skills -

General

  • Proactively prioritizes needs and effectively manages resources with limited supervision
  • Guides assigned individuals and groups toward desired outcomes, setting high performance standards
  • Assesses work activities and allocates resources appropriately, as directed by the Manager
  • Ensuring assigned tasks are completed timely, and appropriate people are notified
  • Gathering and consolidating information that impacts measurable goals and targets, and assistance in leading the payroll team (internal and external) in meeting and/or exceeding outlined metrics.
  • Research ability to identify root cause and provide solutions.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Workday, Kronos, Salesforce and others as required; ability to quickly learn new PC skills

Communication

  • Communicates clearly and effectively with staff, leadership, across internal/external teams and customers. Provide an approachable and open environment for questions, concerns and suggestions in all interactions.
  • Articulates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures and systems; including strong understanding of internal controls within a consolidated payroll processing environment.
  • Able to receive and provide feedback to encourage an open and honest environment.
