We are seeking an Outpatient Laboratory Support Specialist to join our team and support the smooth operation of our Outpatient Blood Draw, Family Medicine Blood Draw, and/or Long Term Care morning collection services. This is a key role that supports both clinical and clerical functions-helping ensure high-quality patient care, timely specimen collection and processing, and seamless lab operations.

You will work directly with the Support Services Supervisor to facilitate efficient workflow while performing a range of clerical, phlebotomy, and laboratory support duties. The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment where attention to detail, communication, and patient interaction are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Support Services Supervisor to coordinate workflow and maintain efficient blood draw services across designated departments.

  • Perform high-quality phlebotomy procedures on patients of all ages, including test ordering from manual requisitions, test scheduling, and conducting test procedures.

  • Accurately log, process, and deliver specimens for in-house and reference laboratory testing.

  • Perform clerical tasks such as charting, filing, answering phones, faxing lab results, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory.

  • Clean laboratory equipment and assist in performing basic equipment maintenance.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision to meet daily operational needs.

  • Maintain a high standard of customer service and professionalism when interacting with patients, providers, and other healthcare team members.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of clerical and office practices; proficiency with computers and basic troubleshooting.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills to explain procedures and provide patient education.

  • Knowledge of human development and ability to work effectively with patients across the lifespan.

  • Strong writing skills for maintaining accurate records.

  • Ability to accurately enter and retrieve test orders and results using a computer terminal.

  • Physical ability to:

    • Walk long distances and stand for extended periods.

    • Lean across bedside or patient chairs to perform blood draws.

    • Push carts and carry a fully stocked phlebotomy tray or filled gallon container.

  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and rotate shifts as required.

  • Familiarity with hospital operations, laboratory support functions, and adult learning principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in phlebotomy.

  • Coursework in medical terminology.
