Job Summary
Student Affairs at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for an Athletic Trainer! The Athletic Trainer is essential to Recreation and Wellness by providing medical care and treatment to participants associated with Competitive Sports and other department activities. Due to the large number of participations that occur within Competitive Sports programs, athletic trainers are necessary to help when injuries and/or medical situations occur throughout the year.
Essential Functions

  • Supervise practices and competitions including preparing athletes for practices, workouts, and competitions; provide first aid and recovery healthcare to student athletes including assessing injuries, treatment, and referral to appropriate physician; provide medical referrals depending on injury location/severity; assess and review Intramural and Club Sports athletes for concussion symptoms and administer "return to play" protocols; coordinate a preventative conditioning program for athletes developing rehabilitative and conditioning therapy.
  • Assist with the compilation, input, organization, and maintenance of all student athlete medical records for department assessment requirements.
  • Track injuries by athlete in Intramural Sports, Club Sports, and Recreation and Wellness programs; manage data entry and analysis in internal and external software systems for injury tracking/reporting; make recommendations to improve department training and reporting procedures/protocols.
  • Debrief major incidents/injuries with team to improve operations and procedures; attend departmental meeting to stay informed on important dates/concepts/projects.
  • Keep comprehensive inventory records and perform routine counts of equipment and supplies needed by the Athletic Training program; maintain and update confidential athlete injury records, medical insurance, injury follow-ups.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day operation and scheduling of athletic training rooms.
  • Assists students and members during open training room hours assessing and treating injuries and illnesses.
  • Assists the Competitive Sports program with annual training of Club Sport officers and student employees related to risk management procedures, protocols, and emergency action plans.
  • Performs administrative functions including communication, attention to detail, timely work, problem-solving, and employment reliability.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science (with an emphasis in athletic training), or related which leads to athletic training certification

Level I

  • Bachelor's degree


Level II

  • Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience OR
  • Master's degree

Level III

  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience OR
  • Master's degree plus 2 years of experience

Scope of Experience: Experience in preventing, assessing and treating athletic injuries

Certification or Licensure Requirements:
Must be certified by the National Trainers' Association Board and eligible to be licensed in the State of Alabama by the Alabama Board of Athletic Training.
