Position Overview:
The Support Supervisor plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations of the Pupil Transportation and Fleet Management to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all transportation services within Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). This position is responsible for ensuring adequate staffing and route coverage to meet the daily transportation schedule demands, including home-to-school, special education, and field trip services. The supervisor provides direct oversight and support to drivers and monitors, serving as their primary point of contact and interface to ensure clear communication and operational alignment. Key responsibilities include monitoring and adjusting route coverage in real time, evaluating service incidents and complaints, and implementing or recommending corrective actions to resolve operational challenges. The Support Supervisor is expected to respond promptly to transportation-related incidents and accidents, conduct preliminary investigations, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and reporting procedures.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Language: Ability to speak and understand English; Bilingual is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in transportation or logistics, with supervisory experience preferred. Experience within a K-12 school district or public sector environment is highly desirable.
- Certifications: Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsements, no airbrakes restrictions.

- Data Management: Capable of compiling and analyzing reports and documentation (e.g., incident/accident reports, student counts, and mileage). Ability to input and analyze data in transportation management and routing systems.
- Decision-Making: Makes informed recommendations regarding policies, procedures, personnel, and route adjustments to enhance service delivery.
- Customer Service: Handles inquiries and concerns from students, families, and school personnel with professionalism and diplomacy.
- Compliance & Safety: Understands transportation regulations, ensuring safe and legal operations.
- Supervision: Proven ability to lead diverse teams, foster a positive work culture, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision to bus drivers, van drivers, and monitors, to include maintaining a positive work culture, fostering a welcoming environment, and coaching/counseling to correct deficient behavior.
- Ensure daily transportation coverage across regular routes, field trips, athletic events, and special assignments.
- Communicate with drivers regarding route changes, road conditions, and emergencies to maintain smooth operations.
- Dispatch drivers and coordinate vehicle scheduling to meet all transportation demands.
- Compile and review operational data for reporting and compliance purposes.
- Respond to and resolve incidents, accidents, and complaints; recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Develop and manage routes, driver schedules, and training assignments.
- Inform school staff and families about transportation policies, procedures, and incidents.
- Review and process employee time, attendance, and leave in the district's payroll management system.
- Participate in meetings and trainings to stay informed and aligned with operational policies, procedures, and goals.
- Recommend improvements to policies and operational procedures.
- Perform other related duties to ensure effective transportation service delivery.
