Quincy, Florida, USA The Environmental Engineer plays an essential role in supporting responsible mining practices by managing land reclamation activities and ensuring environmental compliance across our operations in Florida and Georgia. This position focuses on reclamation activities, permitting, and coordination with regulatory agencies to meet all applicable standards and best practices. Working closely with both internal teams and external partners, you'll help restore mined lands and support long-term sustainability goals for the Adsorbents and Additives business unit. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who values both technical work and environmental stewardship in a practical, hands-on setting. Responsibilities
- Oversee reclamation activities for mining operations in Quincy, FL, and Georgia, ensuring compliance with environmental and mining regulations.
- Elaborate reclamation plans for mined-out areas, with project specifications, scoping documents, and preparation of BID documents.
- Maintain and update all required environmental and mining permits, including those issued by Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
- Support stormwater drainage and control strategies - Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) - and the design of retention ponds and other mine-related infrastructure.
- Prepare and submit annual compliance reports to FDEP and GADNR in accordance with regulatory deadlines.
- Coordinate with external environmental consultants to support project planning, permitting, and compliance documentation.
- Serve as a point of contact for communication with state and federal regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and accurate information exchange.
- Maintain detailed records of all permitting activities, including communications with contractors, consultants, and regulators.
- Collaborate effectively with internal mining teams, consultants, and third-party stakeholders to support ongoing compliance and reclamation goals.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field is required.
- A minimum of three years of experience working with regulatory agencies on reclamation projects and/or environmental permitting is expected.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in both Florida and Georgia is required for this position.
- Experience with AutoCAD is required. Familiarity with ArcGIS or similar Geographic Information System (GIS) software is considered a strong asset.
- Effective communication skills are necessary to effectively interact with both internal stakeholders and external regulatory representatives.
- The ability to organize, document, and track complex permitting processes and communications is critical to success in this role.
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach is needed to manage evolving compliance requirements and support sustainable mining operations.
