Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Senior Instructional Designer takes part in and oversees a variety of instructional design projects. Consulting with internal and external clients, position builds professional relationships and performs detailed needs assessments in order to create individualized curriculum that meets each client's unique needs. Acting as both an instructional designer and a project manager, this position is responsible for a full range of learning and development activities, including designing curriculum and materials, managing project timelines and compliance with all relevant internal and external regulations and ensuring end-products meet client needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops professional relationships with internal and external clients. Performs detailed analysis of the client's unique training needs
  2. Working with various clients, this position acts as an instructional design project manager. This includes but is not limited to developing a project management plan, timelines and resource allocation requirements, monitoring activities, identifying constraints that may impact the projects, and making adjustments as needed
  3. Provides leadership, vision, and project management oversight to project teams. This includes planning, setting priorities and timelines, managing numerous projects simultaneously, assigning deliverables, and managing the QA process for all courses under development or revision
  4. Designs and develops complex technical curriculum and course materials (e.g., lab books, instructor and participant guides, PowerPoint presentations, and assessments) for instructor-led courses, using the ADDIE model
  5. Identifies potential solutions for complex training and delivery issues that have broad functional consequences to training stakeholders
  6. Conducts needs assessments for clients to better understand the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by their workforce
  7. Creates course descriptions, syllabi, and outlines. Trains instructors on curriculum
  8. Consults with instructors/subject-matter experts to gather information in subject areas such as geometry, trigonometry, welding, machining, blueprint reading, etc.
  9. Maintains database of training materials for clients
  10. Supports system-wide program for faculty and staff development and credentialing for online teaching
  11. Consults with leaders of major constituency groups within the organization to assess and analyze learning needs of employees across the region based on current and future strategic plans
  12. Develops strategic plans for development for training curricula, professional development and technical programs
  13. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to lead teams that include internal contacts at all levels, as well as external clients, contractors, and subject matter experts
  • Ability to grasp technical content
  • Strong visual, oral, and written communication skills (with individuals, in small groups, and in front of large audiences)
  • Interacts effectively with other people. Establishes rapport with individuals and groups, asks questions, explains information, listens well, and deals effectively and professionally with impediments to progress among members of a group
  • Demonstrates excellent work habits (strong organizational and time management skills, problem solving skills, ability to be flexible)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong working knowledge of PC's and related software (especially Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing needs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks with overlapping deadlines

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Salary

Hiring salary range is $72,821 - $83,745

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
