Duties and Responsibilities |
- Daily startup, maintenance, and quality control of the facility's instrumentation, and daily data management responsibilities.
- Training new users on core instrumentation and protocols.
- Performing cell sorting with core instrumentation.
- Interacting with core facility users, including technicians, students, postdocs, and faculty.
- Consulting on technical aspects of flow cytometry experimental design, handing, and preparation of biological samples.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field.
- Two to three years experience working in a shared resource facility, research lab, or similar context.

Loyola University Chicago is seeking a Flow Cytometry Specialist to join our Flow Cytometry Core Facility. This position will work under the guidance of the Facility Manager to provide flow cytometry expertise and support to the scientists and students at the Health Sciences Campus. The Loyola Flow Cytometry Core Facility is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and supports a diverse research community. Accordingly, this position provides an ideal environment for gaining competence with a wide array of flow cytometry techniques and instruments. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in flow cytometer operation and maintenance, data analysis, and day-to-day operation of a shared resource laboratory.
Individuals with a background in Cell Biology, Immunology, or related fields are highly desirable. A working knowledge of the basics of flow cytometry is a plus, but this position is intended to provide intensive on the job training and education.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses |
- B.S. degree in the Biological sciences or Biochemistry with proficient knowledge of genetics, physics, chemistry, instrumentation, immunology, and computers.
- Two to three years' experience with Flow Cytometry. Familiarity with BD Sorters (FACSAria) and analyzers (Canto II or Fortessa) or other flow cytometry instrumentation is a plus.

- Experience using specialized analysis software (FlowJo, FACSDiVa, Ideas (ISX).
- Microsoft Office products.
- Proficiency on Macintosh and PC computers
