Currently announcing a vacancy for an associate director for communications/editor.


Job Summary

Directly responsible to the Director of the Communications Division for the production and maintenance of NJEA's primary member communication vehicles, including the New Jersey Education Association Review, njea.org and other publications or platforms as assigned that may be utilized by NJEA to communicate with members and the public.


Essential Functions

  1. Responsible to ensure that NJEA members receive timely, accurate and useful information through NJEA's official communications vehicles.
  2. Responsible for reporting, writing, collecting, editing and publishing news, features, announcements and other information useful to NJEA members in both their professional and advocacy roles.
  3. Responsible for facilitating the use of NJEA's communications vehicles to encourage and facilitate member engagement on all organizational priorities and initiatives.
  4. Responsible for ensuring that NJEA's communications vehicles are used to advance the interests of NJEA, its members and New Jersey's public schools, in accordance with NJEA's mission and goals.
  5. Responsible for training local affiliate leaders and members, as assigned, in the communications skills necessary for them to more effectively communicate with members at the local level.
  6. Responsible for assisting local associations with other communications needs, as assigned.
  7. Responsible for any other assignment made by the Director of Communications in order to advance the interests of NJEA and its members.


Qualifications

A candidate should possess a high degree of intelligence and creativity; should be an excellent writer able to translate complex ideas into clear, simple prose; should be able to edit the writing of others; should be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-based environment; should be able to learn new skills quickly and enthusiastically; should be able to adapt readily to technological change; and should understand the mission, purpose and goals of the New Jersey Education Association.
