Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Network Engineer II to join our Network Operations team. As a Network Ops Engineer, you'll autonomously support and maintain Iridium's Gateway telecom architecture and service sub-systems. This position provides last tier support to all ground systems operations including Gateway Technical Ops, Tier 2 Customer Support, and Service Delivery. In this role, you'll focus primarily on troubleshooting complex issues, collaborating with vendors, and enhancing system performance. This individual will assist with the design, development, testing, and deployment of new systems and applications in response to Iridium business and marketing requirements. You will thrive in this role if you're adept at problem-solving, adaptable, and driven to make an impact.

What You'll Do:

    Work collaboratively with vendors, subcontractors, and consultants to resolve outstanding issues
  • Assist in maintaining Gateway subsystems and services, both on premise and cloud based
  • Perform administration and maintenance of the remote monitoring and management system: update agent scripts, respond to alerts, monitor dashboards, and perform periodic system reviews
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve operations issues and work closely with the Operations team to improve maintenance procedures and achieve successful troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure high quality products are ready to deploy into production according to assigned schedule
  • Investigate and resolve escalated customer tickets
  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of maintenance documents for all Gateway network element systems and network infrastructure
  • Provide technical support to external and internal groups
  • Support the Iridium Voice service suite and ensure high-quality product deployment


Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in telecommunications or related industry
  • Working knowledge from installation to maintenance of Linux operating system (Redhat/CentOS), IP network infrastructure, SIP, Python, and Database systems (Oracle, MySQL)
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present information and ideas to others
  • Have confidence and be able to easily build meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks, self-aware enough to identify and correct mistakes, and not afraid to ask for help when needed
  • Be active in seeking out ways to improve yourself and gain new knowledge, and be enthusiastic in sharing knowledge with others

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • AWS (Amazon Web Services) Certifications
  • Knowledge of the following is a plus:
    • Communications systems architecture development
    • Circuit and packet switched voice and data communications
    • TCP/IP communications,
  • Experience in any of: IPv4 networks, GSM, Telecom, realtime systems is a plus
  • Direct experience with systems software life cycle
  • Experience in software development preferred, but not required. (C, C++, tcl)
  • Experience in IP network engineering, development, integration, and testing is strongly desired

We'll Also Need You To:

  • Be on call to support major network issues
  • Be able to travel up to 10%
  • Be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person, Foreign Person not from Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Russia, Belarus

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
