| Essential Job Duties |
Become a vital part of NC State University's Building Maintenance and Operations team as an
HVAC Technician-a hands-on role where your expertise helps ensure the safety, comfort, and functionality of our campus buildings. This position plays a key role in supporting critical infrastructure by maintaining, repairing, and operating
HVAC systems, steam/hot water boilers, and related equipment. In addition to
HVAC responsibilities, this role involves performing general building maintenance, including electrical and plumbing work, within an assigned service zone. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems and fixtures, including pipe cutting, threading, assembling, and valve installations
- Perform electrical tasks up to 600V, including maintenance of panels, breakers, motors, and lighting systems
- Troubleshoot and service HVAC control systems (temperature, humidity, pneumatic valves, and sensors)
- Diagnose and repair boilers, turbines, pumps, steam lines, pressure-reducing stations, and insulation systems
- Conduct preventive maintenance on refrigeration and A/C units according to manufacturer standards
- Lead and mentor others in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control system repairs and maintenance
- Utilize extension ladders and high lifts to safely access and perform repairs and maintenance at various heights
- Enter and operate effectively within confined spaces following all established safety protocols
- Participate in a mandatory quarterly on-call rotation program, requiring the carrying of a pager or equivalent communication device for one full week, occurring every ten to fourteen weeks

| Other Responsibilities |
- Designated as essential personnel for the University, requiring reporting to work during adverse weather conditions even if the University is operating on an alternate schedule and Assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.

Qualifications
| Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Extensive experience in the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of systems across multiple trades, with a focus on HVAC, electrical, steam, and plumbing
- Experience in the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls
- Technical training in HVAC systems
- Thorough knowledge of local, state, and national codes and regulations related to assigned trades
- Possession of a current Universal CFC Certification
