Job Summary:

University Housing is now hiring! We are looking for motivated leaders for our Unit Manager position. This individual would lead a team of career and student staff in our Dining & Culinary Services department on the UW-Madison campus.

University Housing Dining & Culinary Services serves the residents of the University Residence Halls, as well as all UW-Madison students, faculty, staff, and the general public in a variety of venues, including catering operations, 7 dining markets, coffee shops, and convenience stores.

Unit Managers oversee food service operations, manage financials, and develop long-term operational strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and meet food service objectives in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues.


Responsibilities:
Provides guidance for food service operations in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues, including financial and long term operational planning to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals.

  • 30% Provides operational guidance for food service activities, identifies, develops, facilitates staff training opportunities, and/or supervises dining staff
  • 20% Plans and directs staff implementation of operating policies and procedures to ensure adherence to safe food quality, handling, and sanitation processes and procedures
  • 10% Monitors the unit budget and approves expenditures
  • 10% Tracks and forecasts inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 15% Directs and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • 15% Develops staff resources, menus, and communication plans based on established goals


Tasks:

  • Identifies and implements key trends and opportunities in fast casual dining.
  • Manages a dining unit in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining environment.
  • Manages and supervises student employees.
  • Oversees customer service initiatives and resolves concerns.
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree


Qualifications:

Required:
--5 years of previous management experience in food service, catering or related experience.

Preferred:
--2 to 3 years food service management experience in a large scale commercial or corporate level setting.
--College or University food service management experience.
--Experience with food menu management and ordering.


License/Certification:

Required
ServSafe Certification
Current ServSafe certification, or the ability to be certified within the first 6 months of appointment is required.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
This is a full-time appointment. The starting annual salary is $65,000 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package.


Additional Information:

Schedule for this position is primarily based on catering events and includes frequent weekends and evenings. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.
