Position: MSI Teaching Assistant - Summer 2025 (NJIT STUDENTS ONLY) Department: New Jersey Institute of Technology Reports to: Levelle Burr-Alexander / Senior Director of Strategic Planning & Community Initiatives, CPCP, levelle.e.burr-alexander@njit.edu Hours per week: Employment Period: Summer Pay Rate: 16.00 - 16.00 Position Description: Program Dates: June 30 - August 7, 2025 (Mondays - Thursdays from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm) plus staff training, student and parent orientation, setup, and wrap-up days before and after the program implementation including a closing ceremony in the evening on Thursday, August 7, 2024; 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Work on-campus as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the NJIT/Newark Math Success Initiative (MSI) - a 6-week summer offering that is implemented through the Center for Pre-College Programs (student component) and the Department of Mathematical Sciences (student and teacher component) at NJIT. The MSI program is designed to identify and strengthen Newark high school students' mathematics knowledge, skills, and preparation for college work. Program participants are rising-12th graders from the public high schools within the Newark school district. The Teaching Assistants (TAs) work collaboratively with the project team to chaperone, facilitate learning, and supervise a group of up to 50 high school students during the learning experiences such as classes, recreation, lunch, and field trips, where applicable. Assist classroom instructors with activities related to students' academic development and enrichment in an NJIT mathematics enrichment course plus additional classes, in challenge time, NJIT experience, real-world mathematics applications, career exploration, and college preparatory/readiness skills development. Employment and/or continued employment are subject to successfully passing State Mandated Criminal Background Check. There are 4 Teaching Assistant (TA) positions available. 1.Assists in the administration and evaluation of assessment instruments. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college by the Summer of 2025 with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate strong mathematics skills. Applicants must be available for mandatory training starting at the mid-to-end of June 2025 and be available to work the duration of the summer program including virtual platforms such as Zoom and Google Classroom for Education.
