Job Description Summary:
The George Washington School of Nursing (GW Nursing) drives innovation and improvements in health care worldwide through the education of compassionate nurses, esteemed educators and researchers, entrepreneurial leaders, and influential policy experts.

Housed at the George Washington University, the Coalition for the Supportive Care of Kidney Patients includes a team of subject matter experts that aim to transform care for patients with kidney disease. The Coalition seeks out and supports a wide variety of research projects that enhance patient/clinician shared decision-making, eliminate barriers to care, improve patient and caregiver quality of life, and provide holistic, continuous care modalities for those with kidney disease. The Coalition also makes available a wide variety of evidence-based kidney supportive care resources that are designed for patients, caregivers and clinicians. At the time of this posting, Coalition team members are supporting the ExPAND Project, a $12 million, 5-year study funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute ( PCORI) to improve shared decision-making and care programs for older adults with late-stage chronic kidney disease.

This position is responsible for planning, conducting, and supervising research in the field of nephrology, including kidney supportive care. Using extensive experience and judgment, this role will plan independent research, analyze and interpret data, publish results, represent the university at conferences and meetings, develop new theories and methodologies, and teach or inform best practices in clinical or public health research. This position will also utilize their experience in research implementation and administration to support ongoing projects that are part of the Coalition's portfolio.
Duties:

  • With mentorship from senior research faculty, lead proposal efforts for new funding opportunities by organizing teams around high-level study designs and tactical processes
  • Provide technical support to proposed or active research projects to enhance study design and implementation, including but not limited to: protocol drafting and Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, data collection setup using tools like REDCap, and progress reporting to internal team members and external stakeholders.
  • Support the Coalition's administrative lead in designing and adhering to study budgets to ensure appropriate spending and effort allocation.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure work remains organized and proceeds in an efficient manner.


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Master's degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of research administration in a university setting, with a strong preference for 5 years of experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrable interest and research experience in public health and healthcare research, with a strong preference for experience in the fields of nephrology and kidney supportive care.
  • Experience with advanced data analysis techniques, including data management, data cleaning, and statistical model building.
  • Experience in pre-award support of principal investigator in preparation of grant proposals, including drafting background and methods sections, budget justification, and other collateral documents for federal, foundation, and PCORI proposals.
  • Ability to both implement and teach statistical techniques for analysis of healthcare data.
  • Team player who is highly motivated to seek and support new funding opportunities while supporting existing research projects as appropriate.
  • Experience with secondary analysis of large datasets relevant to nephrology such as Medicare or USRDS data, is desired.
  • Experience with multi-site clinical trial data management is preferred.

Hiring Range $68,712.00 - $109,821.76
