Job Responsibilities:

The Cancer Registry Team Lead analyzes core information from medical records including demographic data, diagnostic procedures and extent of disease, as specified by the Standards of the Commission on Cancer (CoC) requirements for cancer program accreditation. Coordinates and administers all aspects of the cancer program accreditation in accordance with CoC and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) standards while maintaining program accreditation. Plans and directs the daily operations of the cancer registry staff to ensure an ongoing comprehensive cancer program



  • Provides leadership and technical expertise in coordinating all aspects of oncology-related meetings to include cancer committees and continuing medical education programs for physicians.
  • Responsible for the submission of completed registry data to the Virginia Cancer Registry, as required by Virginia law, and to the National Cancer Database, as required by Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards and as evidenced by monthly monitoring.
  • Interacts with both physicians and staff to set personal and departmental goals while communicating expertise and providing feedback to the staff as evidenced by monthly supervision. Provides Cancer Registry Team with support and guidance while performing duties as assigned in the absence of supervisor/manager.
  • Identifies the need for and provides guidance to team members to ensure all team members are efficient and productive.
  • Supports the cancer registry computer network administrator to ensure smooth departmental operations.
  • Supervises and evaluates cancer-related information services and computer systems/software related to the registry operations on an annual basis.
  • Recommends changes in the system, policies, and procedures based on emergent technologies as needed.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.


Additional Requirements:



  • Work Schedule: Full-Time
  • Education: Associate's Degree in Health Information, Health Sciences, Data Management or related field.
  • Experience: Five years in related Health Information or CoC accredited Cancer Registry; one year of supervisory experience.
  • Certification: Certified Tumor Registrar or Registered Health Information Technologist upon hire
