Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, is responsible for assisting the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel in representing Denver Health's legal interests and maintaining its operations within the scope established by law. In alignment with Denver Health's overall business strategy, provides hands-on counsel and representation to the organization requiring a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of one or more specialized fields of legal practice. This position reports directly to the General Counsel and has varying responsibility working with senior leadership, departmental leaders throughout the organization and serves as the primary legal advisor to Denver Health's departments of Hospital Managed Care, Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety, (RMPDS) and Denver Health Medical Plan (DHMP).
Essential Functions:
- Contract and Affiliation Management
* Primary resource for the Physician and Provider Contract Administrator and Legal Contract Management Administrator to develop new processes for legal contract review and renewals, and the negotiation(s) and renewal of affiliation agreements. * Serve as primary attorney within the Office of General Counsel to Denver Health's departments of Hospital Managed Care, Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety (RMPDS), Denver Health Medical Plan (DHMP), and Physician Contracting, providing legal support in commercial contract review, negotiation, and administration. (20%) - Legal Advice and Counsel
* Provide legal advice and counsel on a variety of health law matters, including day-to-day legal matters with a heavy emphasis on commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and rules and regulations. * Assist the Business and Operations teams in achieving legal and regulatory-compliant, desired outcomes. (20%) - Legislative Support and Advocacy
* Assist the Office of Government Relations with drafting and reviewing Legislative bills, recommending strategies, drafting legislative proposals, providing legal guidance on issues affecting Denver Health, and ensuring the organization's interests are effectively represented. (20%) - Litigation and Dispute Management
* Manage litigation, disputes, and complex legal matters to mitigate risk and reach suitable resolutions for the organization. Interact with outside counsel representing Denver Health in various legal matters. Draft and respond to demand letters, attend mediations, and represent Denver Health in other litigation matters. * Advise and ensure hospital collection efforts comply with applicable law while serving as primary legal contact for the Third-Party Recovery Unit. Engage with plaintiff's counsel while representing Denver Health's interests in efforts to secure collections as needed. (20%) - Legal Research and Compliance
* Conduct legal research and analysis, draft legal memoranda, and serve as a legal representative on various committees, as necessary. * Identify and analyze risks and deliver practical creative solutions to the business issues faced by Denver Health, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws and regulations. (20%)
Education:
- Doctorate Degree Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D. American Bar Association Required
Work Experience:
- 7-9 years experience as a practicing attorney with emphasis in legal review. Required and
- Healthcare experience, preferred.
Licenses:
- JD-State Bar - American Bar Association Required

- Well-versed in legal research and knowledge of applicable laws, codes, procedures, state and federal regulations.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas verbally and in writing.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple departments to improve processes related to contract management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook, LexisNexis, legal research, with the ability to learn and fully adapt to programs and software used within DH.
