Bone Densitometry DXA Technologist:
  • Reviews and evaluates requisitions for bone density examinations, determining appropriateness of examinations requested given the diagnosis and clinical signs. Positions and immobilizes patients of all age groups and disease categories to provide maximum diagnostic information.
  • Explains examination and advises patients and families regarding the examination and radiation exposure. Assesses patient and family's ability to participate in the examination and adjusts accordingly.
  • Observes radiation safety standards ALARA , observes hospital patient safety policies and identifies and reports changes in patient condition.
  • Operates DXA and pQCT scanners. Operates related ancillary equipment and computers. Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor and/or hospital engineering department. Performs daily quality control, routine preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Schedules patients using hospital scheduling programs and coordinates scan assessments. Enters appropriate demographics, visit type, and insurance.
  • Maintains organized files and accurate statistics for the Director of the program.
  • Orders supplies as needed for the program, patient care and general office.
  • Performs a variety of special projects and additional work as needed and assigned.
  • Further professional education and maintains knowledge of current hospital and departmental policies and procedures


To Qualify, you must have:

  • An Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology required
  • Current Massachusetts license as a Radiologic Technologist required
  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Registration ARRT certification required
  • 6 months of related experience required

*Certification by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry ISCD will be offered as a part of training.
