Role Summary: As an Engineer in the area of OBD certification and compliance, the primary responsibility will involve contributions to the engineering team for the purpose of obtaining timely Agency approval of future model year OBD systems. This responsibility would include oversight of respective certification documentation, supporting activities to obtain certification of OBD systems. This role is a Group function and interacts with all VWGoA Brands. Role Responsibilities:
OBD Certification (90%)
- Assembles and contributes required certification information to the engineering teams in Europe, Mexico and USA for achieving timely approvals of OBD System from the Agency
- Creates required OBD System application (A-P) and OBD Common Section in accordance with CCR Title 13
- Supports the development of technical information and participate in negotiations informing the Agency about future OBD System strategies
- Supports discussions regarding OBD certification requirements and compliance related issues
- Works closely with EEO's Subject Matter Experts, Management and Stakeholders in Europe, Mexico an USA to ensure transparency and alignment for OBD applications
- Prepares, reviews, and edits OBD related running change/field fix documentation and submits to the appropriate government agencies via electronic means
OBD and Regulatory Requirements (10%)
- Investigate and provide regulatory interpretations, in alignment with the OBD R-VKO, on technical OBD questions received from the Brands
- Able to support OBD Demonstration testing and PVE testing report generation and submission as needed. This includes creating reports along with supportive documentation and conduct any necessary follow up related to the testing results
Qualifications
Qualifications: Years of Experience:
- 5+ years OBD Certification experience, calibration experience or related experience in the automotive industry
Education - Required:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred in Engineering or related discipline

- In depth knowledge of OBD regulations and regulatory requirements needed for OBD Certification.
- Familiarity with OBD tools and communications protocols.
- Experience with Government Agency (CARB) negotiations involving OBD certification approval.
- Detailed knowledge of vehicle emission standards, emission certification requirements, and AECD applications.
- Demonstrated technical presentation and negotiation skills
Specialized Skills - Desired:
- PVE reporting, and/or Certification application processing
- Fuel control system design and/or calibration experience
- Software development of OBD control system algorithms
- Data acquisition, on road vehicle testing experience
- Fleet testing experience, OBD Demonstration, or PVE testing.
- General automotive analytical and diagnostic experience
- Knowledge of the design and function of serial bus systems
- Experience with problem resolution of OBD communications issues in the field
- Fluent in Spanish and German
Work Flexibility:
- 10% Travel, typically 2-5 day duration
- Work schedule can be somewhat flexible (e.g., flextime, or compressed work week) in alignment with management
- Must be available to contact colleagues at European locations and California
- Attending offsite Agency meetings, conferences, symposiums, and workshops as a VW representative
