Mott MacDonald is currently seeking a Principal Construction Manager with experience in the transportation section including ports, highways or transit in Los Angeles area. As a part of this role, you will perform a wide variety of work in either a field or office setting. You will supervise our on-site support staff and subcontractors being directly responsible for administration of construction contracts and reviews the work of contractor, and third parties in accordance with the applicable contract documents. As the Sr. CM, you will be responsible for on-site construction management activities and will be the primary point of contact with the contractor, review progress of the work to assure compliance with the contract documents, budgets, schedule, assure appropriate measurement and payments are made as necessary, and all project documentation is completed in accordance with client policies and procedures. Additionally, you will be responsible for pro-actively reviewing the contract documents to anticipate, identify, and assist with preparing change orders needed to resolve conflicts or recommend improvements, as well as executing any non-compliance notices for non-conforming work by the Contractor.

The Sr. CM will administer the provisions of the contract while acting as a representative of client, and will perform tasks as directed by client, including but not limited to the following:




  • Ensures safety of employees of all parties as well as the safety of the public by observing contractor's operations, making recommendations, and taking recommending corrective action when necessary





  • Reviews contractor operations for compliance with CAL OSHA regulations





  • Coordinates with the contractor(s) as well as all other relevant third parties and the Client's field staff for all construction activities on the Project





  • Provides direction to Construction Management Support staff to ensure complete, accurate and timely contract records, pertaining to construction progress, job expenditures, budget programs, and work order balances are maintained in accordance with State and Federal regulations and laws





  • Confers with contractors regarding compliance with work progress, plans, contract terms and conditions, and quality of work.





  • Supervises or performs construction assessments of contractor's submittals and work to verify compliance with contract requirements.





  • Supports and assists the implementation of the Quality Management Oversight Program, including oversight of construction inspection, testing and other quality assurance activities.





  • Provides timely and pertinent review and input on all correspondences, submittals, RFIs, and other material provided by client.





  • Supports and assists by providing timely and pertinent review of all changes, claims, Time Impact Analysis submittals, disputes and other contract modifications and interpretations.





  • Prepares a daily diary and other reports, as well as reviews and incorporates the daily inspection reports from construction inspection staff, in documenting the contractor(s) activities.





  • Maintains accurate and complete project records and ensures compliance with client policies and procedures.





  • Review calculations and documents field quantities for payment purposes.





  • Review and process Contractor's pay applications





  • Documents as-built condition of constructed facilities





  • Supports client in maintaining cost and schedule goals and commitments, implements project controls measures that provide real-time assessments of the project budget and schedule, and reports as required to client Executive leadership.





  • Assists with preparing contract change orders to ensure proper completion or construction of the contract.





  • Formulates, researches, and develops solutions for field conditions that necessitate a contract change order.





  • Identifies the need for and supports preparation of contract-related documents for submission to the contractor.





  • Supports and assists with third-Party staff





  • Issue, track and close out any non-compliance notices to the Contractor





  • Elevate issues and disputes to the client which are beyond the authority of the Construction Managers in accordance with client principles.





The candidate will have the following qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or other related field





  • At least fifteen (15) years of experience in Construction Management of Large Complex Heavy Civil Engineering projects in transportation, including ports





  • Desired port experience includes waterfront structural modifications and/or new construction of marine terminals preferably with Southern California ports.





  • Approximately five (5) years of supervisory experience in the management of Major Construction Contracts





  • Valid California Class C driver's license





  • Knowledge of California Building Codes as well as local municipal requirements





  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) is desirable.





  • Willing and able to work flexible hours to support construction project needs





  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Oracle P6 and other relevant software





  • Ability to obtain Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-Hr safety certification.

The expected salary for this position is $170,000- $208,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
