Job Overview:
Provide support to manufacturing through the fabrication and maintenance of tooling, fixtures, gauges and dies on a timely basis while maximizing safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness. Operate conventional machine tools and CNC equipment to produce tooling components.
Responsibilities:
* Studies blueprints or specifications and visualizes shape of die, part, or tool. Measures, marks, and scribes metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments, such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, and rulers. * Sets up and operates machine tools, such as band saw, lathes, milling machines, drill press and grinders to machine parts. Provide technical assistance for machining and assembly methods and sequence of operations for production parts. * Lifts, positions, and secures machined parts on surface plate or worktable, using hoist, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates. * Smooths and polishes flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloth, or power grinder. * Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts, using measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. * Fits and assembles parts, using bolts, glue, and other fasteners, and hand tools, such as hammers and wrenches. Fabrication of jigs and fixtures as needed to support manufacturing operations. * Checks part or tool for hardness using hardness tester. Repairs or modifies tools and dies, using machine tools and hand tools. Assemble tools, fixtures from assembly drawings. Construct and repair special tooling molds and dies. * Provide tooling assessments & technical assistance to Program Coordinators/Managers. Provide cost and timing on tool repairs or modifications, when able. Provide troubleshooting assistance on process problems involving tooling. Provide suggestions related to continual process improvement in all areas of responsibility. * Assist the Engineering and Manufacturing Departments in developing methods to incorporate process product improvement ideas. Continuously and immediately inform management of all equipment malfunctions, production, and quality or safety issues.
Requirements:
* High School Diploma OR General Education Degree (GED) required * At least 2+ (two) or more years of Tool and Die Making experience * At least 2+ reading, writing and interpreting simple drawings and schematics. * At least 2+ (two) or more years of manual milling experience * At least 2+ (two) or more years of experience running lathes * At least 2+ (two) or more years of in a manufacturing environment.
Core Competencies:
* Knowledge of engineering concepts and terminology * Proficiency in computer literacy and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Preferences:
* Experience with Ingersoll Rand products preferred. * Tool and Die Maker certification or college education preferred * Associate degree (or Technical School Certificate) with a Journeyman's rating as a tool & die maker preferred. * Ability to use small hand tools such as wrenches, mallet, chisel, screw driver, etc. Use and operate a hoist, lift and hand lift trucks for moving and installing dies. * Proven ability to set up and operate CNC machining work centers, specializing in tool changes and in-process offset adjustments. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Work is performed in standing position involving some walking, bending, stooping, handling of light materials, handling of heavier material will be encountered maybe encountered while setting up machine. * The employee must regularly lift parts and sub-assembled units up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move for a distance of ten feet or less completed product that weigh up to 50 pounds, depending on the type of product. * The employee may be required to lift more than 50 pounds and must get assistance by using a material handling device or get assistance from other employees. Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements:
* This position will be based 100% onsite at our Southern Pines, North Carolina facility
