Primary Purpose of Department
The Division of Student Affairs is responsible for educational and personal development through programs and services that support and enhance students' growth. The division promotes student learning and holistic development that also fosters a recognition and appreciation of all. It provides services, facilities, and physical structures that encourage interpersonal engagement, stimulate the learning process, and promote mental, physical health, and wellness. The division fosters a campus community that promotes student involvement through enhanced interpersonal and social engagement opportunities, organizations, and programs. The division develops and enhances collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the external community to better serve students' needs and ensure high-quality services and programs. Furthermore, the division develops and expands efforts that encourage student recruitment, retention, and ultimately graduation.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Executive Director for Financial and Human Resources has overall accountability for planning and directing short and long-term strategic financial goals for the Division of Student Affairs. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, this position develops key processes for the division and is responsible for reporting financial information to both internal and external stakeholders. All departmental budget officers will be dotted-line reports to the Executive Director and meet quarterly to discuss budgetary and financial goals from all fund sources - general (state) funds, student fee funds, auxiliary funds, discretionary funds, and university spending accounts funded through donations to the UNC Charlotte Foundation.

The Executive Director serves as the division's primary liaison with Business Affairs and Human Resources. In addition, the Executive Director is the formal representative to the Office of One IT.
Summary of Position Responsibilities

  • The Executive Director assists the Vice Chancellor in the fiscal management of the division. He must have considerable knowledge of the appropriate use of state, trust fund, student fee, and auxiliary funding models. The Executive Director advises the divisional leadership teams (AVCs and department heads) of limitations, regulations, and policies to maintain fiduciary integrity. (S)He develops and monitors internal policies and procedures to meet wide-ranging business and student services needs. The Executive Director is responsible for recommending and implementing long-range strategic planning, goals, and growth projects with to impact on the financial well-being of the division.
  • The Executive Director coordinates with Human Resources in managing the division's EHRA- NF, SHRA, temporary personnel, Graduate Student Assistantship, and student personnel services. (S)He advises the Vice Chancellor on personnel and salary matters. (S)He advises all Exempt Professional Staff hiring managers of the EHRA recruitment process in the division and approves all EHRA staff hiring proposals. The Executive Director ensures adherence to and compliance with Human Resources' required processes for selection, recruitment, work plan creation, periodic performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • A Master's degree in a relevant discipline is required
  • 10 years of experience in increasingly responsible related positions (preferably in higher education)
  • A strong working knowledge of accounting, budgeting principles, and human resource management

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Deep knowledge of MS Excel including sorting data and creating pivot tables.
