Operating Company: Environmental Solutions

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Reports To: Commodity Specialist II

Department: Supply Chain

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will support the strategic sourcing and management of indirect commodities, reporting directly to the Commodity Specialist II. Areas of focus include-but are not limited to-capital equipment, IT services, freight and logistics, and 3rd Eye and Marathon installers. The Commodity Specialist I will be responsible for executing sourcing strategies, supporting negotiations, managing supplier relationships, and contributing to the achievement of annual cost savings and working capital improvement targets. This role requires strong communication, analytical skills, and cross-functional collaboration with departments such as Finance, Operations, IT, and Engineering. This position will also be responsible for providing detailed professional report outs as needed or requested by Indirect Lead.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Support sourcing and negotiation efforts across a variety of indirect categories, including capital expenditures, services, and logistics.
  • Assist in supplier selection, contract management, and ongoing relationship oversight.
  • Partner with Finance and internal stakeholders to evaluate total cost of ownership, track savings, and improve Days Payable Outstanding (DPO).
  • Gather, organize, and analyze data to support decision-making and provide meaningful insights into supplier performance and cost drivers.
  • Prepare professional reporting, dashboards, and presentations for internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Contribute to supplier capability assessments, risk mitigation strategies, and contingency planning across indirect categories.
  • Support the implementation and compliance of procurement processes, policies, and best practices.
  • Become proficient in JDE and other ERP/procurement platforms used for sourcing and spend analysis.
  • Collaborate with other sourcing team members and departments to ensure alignment with overall procurement strategies and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travel for this position is approximately 25%.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience; MBA preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in supply chain, sourcing, or procurement, preferably with exposure to indirect spend.
  • Strong analytical and technical abilities and negotiation skills. With experience using Excel and ERP systems (JDE preferred).
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills with an understanding of contract terms and pricing models.
  • Strong leadership and control of work processes from beginning to end is necessary. The job demands fast, but carefully thought-out results.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with senior internal and external customers as well as end-users of related products and services.
  • Must be able to work effectively in cross-functional teams as well as lead team projects.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects at once and to complete quality work in a timely manner in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Skillful in communicating difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Ability to work with computer-based information and systems, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of organization throughout all daily activities. To include, but not limited to, documentation of all verbal and written correspondence with others (internal and external), proper filing of such information, planning and scheduling of appointments and the coordination of such with others within the department and/or company, time management and the prioritization of tasks. Must document on the purchase order all details relative to supply of a given component to allow for tracking and/or follow-up by others in the event of absence of the employee.
  • Attendance at work, including presence at work during regular working hours or another schedule as may be assigned by the department manager, is essential. Acceptance of overtime assignments may also be required in order to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Must be courteous and professional to others (internal and external). Must maintain a "customer service" attitude toward plant, supervisory, and management personnel to ensure that our ultimate customer receives the highest level of service.
  • Travel for this position is approximately 25%.
