Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement, Health Affairs, this position will focus on building a new portfolio; expanding the UI Health Hospital & Clinics and Mile Square Health Center major gift prospect pool; and qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts. This position will work closely with fundraising teams at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and University of Illinois Cancer Center to develop personalized strategies for engagement and solicitation that maximize each prospect's philanthropic capacity and support for the unit's funding priorities. This position will also partner with the CEO of the University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics and the CEO of Mile Square Health Center in fundraising-related initiatives. Travel may be required to key regions for donor meetings.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Actively build and manage a portfolio of 100+ donors and prospects by qualifying, researching, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts of $25,000+. Complete a minimum of 125 substantive actions with prospective donors annually.
  • Present the unit's funding opportunities articulately, persuasively, and with confidence. Prepare and present professional presentations and funding proposals for donors and prospects as required.
  • Direct development strategy and activities to ensure alignment with UI Health priorities and initiatives.
  • Serve as advancement subject matter expert for health leadership in developing and implementing strategies to solicit gifts, scholarships, facilities, or endowments to fund the mission of the Hospital & Clinics and Mile Square Health Center.
  • Coordinate high-level donor meetings with faculty/senior leadership as needed for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of priority donors.
  • Support key leaders - including the CEO of the University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics, the CEO of Mile Square Health Center, and the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs - in their roles as fundraising partners for their units and UI Health more broadly. Ensure that leaders are professionally and effectively staffed regarding fundraising activities and that their time is optimally utilized.
  • Work with UI Health, College of Medicine, and Office for the Vice Chancellor for Advancement data and operations teams to track fundraising to date and keep the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement, Health Affairs, updated on progress. Develop and present in-depth research, metrics, and reports on prospect pool, benchmarks, success, and growth.
  • Work with UI Health Stewardship team to oversee the delivery of timely acknowledgment letters, endowment impact reports, and other stewardship activities for high-level donors.
  • Partner with Advancement colleagues in data, operations, and individual giving to continue building UI Health's emerging grateful patient program.
  • Collaborate with College of Medicine Alumni Relations and UI Health Events teams to enhance interactions with prospects and donors and increase potential gifts.
  • Track development activities and donor interactions by entering key strategies and interactions into the fundraising database.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent required.
    • A minimum of 5 years of proven and successful experience in development, sales, or a related field.
    • A track record of success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding financial support of five figures and above.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the intellectual depth necessary to understand and translate medical, technical, and research information for all internal and external audiences.

    • Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort in taking charge to proactively build bases of support.
    • Demonstrated success in raising major and principal level gifts in an academic medical or healthcare setting.
    • Knowledgeable in matters pertaining to healthcare, research, and educational programs.
    • Ability to lead with a highly thoughtful, considerate, and respectful approach to working with families and patients facing health issues.
    • Stature, credibility, and capacity to build and sustain effective relationships with colleagues at all levels of the Advancement organization and with partners elsewhere at the University; to influence senior colleagues, often without authority.
    • Highly collaborative, responsible, self-motivated, and exceptional attention to detail.
    • A keen understanding of the role that diversity and intercultural understanding play in achieving excellence.
    • Knowledge of HIPAA and its requirements for development activities; discretion with donor and prospect information.
    • Experience with constituent relationship management system/software.
