Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Ultrasonographer (Pediatric Cardiac) for the department of Pediatrics at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Performs specialized pediatric, fetal, and adult congenital heart disease sonographic examinations (echocardiograms). Exams are performed in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology Suite located in the Clinical Academic Building in New Brunswick as well as in the Bristol Myers Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Labor and Delivery Suite, Antepartum floors, and pediatric emergency department in RWJUH. This position includes working with the neonate, infant, child, adolescent populations, as well as adults with congenital heart disease and pregnant women.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Performs complete digital pediatric transthoracic echocardiograms in compliance with the 2010 Guideline and Standards of the American Society of Echocardiography's Recommendations for performance of a Pediatric echocardiogram.
  • Performs complete digital fetal echocardiogram in compliance with the 2004 Guideline and Standards of the American Society of Echocardiography's Recommendations for the performance of a fetal echocardiogram.
  • Is responsible for obtaining all the vital patient information necessary to perform an echocardiogram (Out-Patient) which includes a height, weight, blood pressure and ECG when indicated.
  • Is responsible for registering all Out-Patient and Fetal Patients through the RWJUH Admission Department to ensure that the finalized reports are electronically filed into both RWJUH and RWJMS electronic medical systems.
  • Is responsible for retrieval of previous echocardiogram reports for physician review.
  • Participates in the training of ultrasound students enrolled in the Cardiac Sonography Program in Rutgers School of Health Related Professions.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Completion of a two (2) year Allied Health Degree or successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP approved School of Ultrasound Technology or Cardiovascular Technology or equivalent education.
  • Candidates who do not possess fetal echocardiography experience must successfully complete on-the- job training.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Must be eligible to acquire American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)/ Pediatric, or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification as a Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS).
  • Must have a minimum of 900 clinical externship hours.
  • Attends CME courses required to maintain professional skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Must be able to push an ultrasound machine to various locations within the Children's Hospital and RWJUH. Standing, walking, sitting, talking and hearing. Ability to lift or exert up to 25 lbs.
  • Work Environment: Office environment with moderate noise.
