The Sepsis Coordinator RN will provide leadership, strategic oversight and actively manage the day-to-day operations of the sepsis program within the hospital and emergency department.

The Sepsis Coordinator RN will facilitate evidence-based practice across all disciplines in accordance with current sepsis guidelines.

The Sepsis Coordinator RN will facilitate evidence-based practice across all disciplines in accordance with current sepsis guidelines and will serve as a resource for staff and providers.

The Sepsis Coordinator RN will provide community, provider, and staff education related to sepsis and work in partnership with the Quality Analyst reviewing sepsis data.

Serve as a role model, consultant, and clinical resource to medical and nursing staff, other healthcare providers, and the public to promote health and reduce illness associated with sepsis.

Makes daily rounds to integrate sepsis workflow and education into everyday patient care.

Conducts chart reviews and reports trends and opportunities across sepsis and mortality measures.

Serves as a professional practice and clinical expert at the bedside and in the classroom.

Partners with VCUHS employees to conduct and/or support completion of required audits to improve Leapfrog safety grade scores. Works with project managers and other departments to review gap analysis and implement new processes to support the LeapFrog safety practices.

Develops reports and presentations for all levels of the organization, system reporting, and public education.

Patient Population: Demonstrates knowledge and related competencies of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age, specific needs and to provide the equitable care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. Infant (1-12 months), Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years and older)

Education Qualifications

Required Education: An associate degree in nursing

Preferred Education: A bachelor's degree in nursing. At least 5 years of experience in an emergency and/or critical care setting managing hemodynamically unstable patients.

Licensing/ Certification

Licensure/Certification Required: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible compact state Licensure, Certification, or Registration

Licensure/Certification Preferred: N/A

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience: At least 2 years of experience in an acute care setting

Preferred: At least 5 years of experience in an emergency and/or critical care setting managing hemodynamically unstable patients.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Skilled at consensus-building and decision-making among groups with competing perspectives and priorities. he ability to analyze complex problems, develop recommendations, and solutions and cogently. communicate them to multiple stakeholders. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, interpersonal, and facilitation skills. Proven analytic and problem solving skills. Ability to manage data including the development of spreadsheets and formulas in Excel, Pivot tables, and develop Power Point slides.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Knowledge of coding and documentation.

Combination of education and experience in lieu of a degree.
