Registered Nurses in the Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant ( BMT) department at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to adult and pediatric with a variety of medical surgical needs. Patient conditions include: Oncology and non-oncology diagnoses (hematology, oncology, endocrine, rheumatology, gastrointestinal, genetic, renal, neurologic, and pulmonary disorders). The Nurse Manager has oversight and responsibility for the AN IIs, RNs (CNII/CNIIIs) and HUSCs. The Nurse Manager interacts with the entire multidisciplinary clinical team, including, the Cancer Center Nurse Managers and staff including; Pediatric Infusion, Adult Infusion Clinic, Radiation Oncology, Cancer Center Practice Manager, Cancer Center supervisors, research coordinators, physicians and nurse practitioners to assure clinical excellence and smooth coordination of patient care across the continuum of the entire comprehensive cancer service line for UCDH. Programmatically, Nurse Manager will assist in the growth and development, and expansion of new cancer treatment therapies and programs. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas, in order to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies. The Nurse Manager will lead staff to model a professional practice environment by: providing a clinically competent staff; encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication; supporting autonomy and accountability; providing staff opportunities for in-service and formal education; stressing the importance of continuous learning; and supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount. The Nurse Manager assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, supports research, participates in both long and short term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy.
