Position Highlights |
We are seeking a Student Engagement Coordinator to oversee and administer a Kellogg funded project of the Wassaja Carlos Montezuma Center for Native Health, at the Department of Family and Community Medicine, at the University of Arizona, Health Sciences Center. This is a grant-funded, extended temporary project through June 30, 2026. The Student Engagement Coordinator under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Executive Director, Christina Andrews, will oversee core project components to achieve the project objectives. The Student Engagement Coordinator will work directly with Native American students in helping them identify career pathways in nursing and public health and connecting them to the appropriate alternative credentials program (ACP). This position will also help to build defined pathways for students between the ACP programs at the community college level and professional 4-year degrees at the University of Arizona. The person will connect students to resources to help with their academic success, and will case-manage each student to address potential issues as they arise. They will work with the PI to evaluate the program at the beginning, middle, and end to ensure that the grant metrics and deliverables are met, as well as identify and document any unforeseen expenses. The person will work with ACP Team when reporting to Tribal leadership to make sure that the Tribes have input and offer feedback. They will also help to operationalize the community health representative credentials program as a pathway to a public health career. FTE will be decided at time of hire in conversation with the candidate and supervisor. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Manage outreach activities of the project in collaboration with the PI, faculty, staff and attend bi-monthly and monthly meetings.
- Give presentations to community partners, including high school advisors, the UA stakeholders, and students at elementary, secondary, and Tribal/community colleges to interest students in science and recruit into pre-health and health professions careers. This may include school science fairs, health career programs, career fairs, and programs to highlight needed specialty degrees.
- Assist faculty and staff in the development and administration of MedSchool Prep and other workshops to prepare students for entrance to Medical School and health career professions.
- Planning and coordinating outreach events at conferences and seminars.
- Supports the creation, organization, and management of extracurricular programs.
- Participate in recruiting AI/AN students to the UA in collaboration with the provost's office and admissions staff.
- Developing communications content and materials to promote INCATS II and other UA Health professional institutions to internal and external constituents via virtual and tangible media including using social media to create a listserv of potential students.
- Encourages student participation in student health professional programs and activities.
- Program evaluation.
- Completes administrative tasks as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Evidence of excellent written and oral communication and the ability to communicate with students from K-Medical school, federal partners at IHS, Tribal leadership, and other key stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to work with others in a team environment with shared workspace and equipment, including in a virtual environment.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy; travel to Tribal Communities will be required.

- Experience in health, or other relevant field of study.
- Previous work experience with or extensive knowledge of working with Tribal Communities.
