Position Highlights

The Office of Student Affairs in the University of Arizona, College of Medicine-Tucson invites applications for the position of Career Coach (Career Strategies Professional II). Career Coaches serve as a primary contact for a specific major area- for constituents both external (industry contacts, employers, alumni) or internal (campus departments, major administration, and COM-T/CEC Administration) of the University. Career Coaches coordinate with various constituents to increase visibility and awareness of CEC students and academic units. This position will establish relationships with employers to serve as a liaison between students and employment opportunities in their major area.

Duties & Responsibilities

Career Coaching:

  • Manage a coaching caseload of students majoring in one of the following CEC programs: Physiology and Medical Sciences, Medicine and Emergency Medicine and other new COM-T degree programs
  • Assist students by conducting resume/cover letter critiques and job-search strategies and providing guidance regarding both continuing education and professional application procedures.
  • Collaborate with COM-T/CEC academic departments in relevant major area and across the college to plan, execute and market experiential learning events and outreach programming.
  • Conduct outreach to current/prospective students to promote benefits of experiential learning.
  • Facilitate placement of undergraduate students in positions related to their academic major/career interest.
  • Maintain internal data collection and support external data collection efforts in relation to student research, graduate school, and career placement.
  • Create, plan, and execute events for students to engage with employers and alumni, including outreach to participants and event logistics.

Professional Development Programming:

  • Facilitate innovative professional development programming including workshops, experiential learning, employer events, mentoring programs, and job shadow experiences, adjusting material as needed depending on intended audience.
  • Support career-related programming for student clubs and organizations requiring some work outside general business hours.
  • Develop workshop or seminar on professional development.

Employer & External Relations:

  • Engage with academic units and CEC team to better understand current engagement of employer partners and opportunities to engage new and relevant partners.
  • Implement & assist in executing plan for outreach and awareness campaigns to employers and organizations relevant to the disciplines in the College of Medicine.
  • Network with and engage employers; solicit their involvement in our internship and full-time recruiting programs and follow up to establish relationships and to communicate selection results.
  • Collaborate with employer partners to maximize visibility and awareness among students in addition to facilitating experiential learning programs and events.
  • Gain a deep understanding of industry and research opportunities for major area.
  • Establish and maintain detailed database of corporate and alumni contacts. Assist with scheduling company visits, interviews, and other relevant events.
  • Gather and compile information related to career outcomes, event attendance, and coaching utilization for annual report.
  • Network and engage internally and externally to raise awareness of the College and develop professional relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or Education preferred or other related degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Work or experience in a related field associated with healthcare is highly desired.
  • Preferred STEM Education or Higher Education background.
  • Preferred corporate or recruiting background.
  • Event coordination (both virtual and in-person) experience.
