Job Overview: RWJBarnabas Health is hiring for a Technical Supervisor position for RWJBH New Brunswick Hospital. This is a Full-Time position. Qualifications: Required:
- Must have a minimum of a New Jersey Red Seal High Pressure Boiler Licenses.
- High School Diploma, and Technical School graduate or equivalent.
- Must have and maintain a New Jersey motor vehicle license.
- 10 years as a lead or chief Engineer at a major healthcare facility, higher education or industrial complex. Additional five years in two or more of the following roles; boiler operations, HVAC, electrical or medical gas technician.
Certifications and Licenses Required (if applicable remove when posting):
- Must possess and maintain a valid NJ driver's license
- Must have a minimum of a New Jersey Red Seal High Pressure Boiler Licenses
Scheduling Requirements:
Essential Functions:
- Operator, control and monitor equipment utilized in the production of steam, chilled water, electric and equipment utilized to incinerate the facilities waste products (ie. boilers incinerator, pumps, fans, emergency generators etc.).
- Ensures that all work performed in the Facility shall meet or exceed codes and/or standards for the industry and manufacturers specifications must be met. Normal, acceptable methods for installation, repair, and maintenance of equipment, appliances, and/or systems shall be evident at all times.
- Ensures that all preventive maintenance is preformed on a variety of equipment according to established procedures; including inspections, calibrations, adjustment, lubrications and repairs and component replacements as needed.
- Oversees, collects and validates as needed all facility utility invoices, creates billing to 3rd parties for use of hospital utilities including but not limited to Steam, Water, Electricity and Medical Gases. Contacts utility suppliers and corrects any found issues, concerns or errors. Works with finance to assist in maintaining, establishing new and extending contracts with utility brokers.
- Performs and/or over sees skilled tasks such as repairs and adjustments necessary for proper operation of mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C., electrical, medical gas and plumbing problems to be reported to Supervision immediately.
- Supervisors Installations, troubleshooting and repair of equipment such as pumps, compressors, motors, sterilization and Power Plant machinery, medical gas components and high voltage transfer switches.
- Oversees effective operation of systems including H.V.A.C. and refrigeration systems all types of A/C and refrigeration wiring and piping systems, nurse call, autoclaves, kitchen equipment, emergency generators and medical gas system.
- Knowledge in all phases of facility hydraulics, vacuums, thermostatic, water and sanitary cycles and practical pipe layout work, high, medium, and low pressure heating and processing system. Capable of repairing boilers, pumps, air compressors, water softeners.
- Extensive knowledge of plumbing, electrical, medical gas, fire alarm and suppression codes. Ability to inspect projects for compliance with Life Safety, BOCA, NJDOHSS, DCA, EPA, DEP and IBC codes, requirements and recommendations.
- Has the ability to operate all types of automobiles/trucks/vans including 4 wheel drive, automatic and manual transmission. Ensures that all ladders, scaffolds, and other types of personnel lifting devices are utilized in conjunction with proper safety equipment at all times. Any breakdowns in equipment are reported to supervision immediately for maintenance attention.
- Hospital/Departmental policies and procedures (including tardiness, lunch/break and clean up schedules) are followed and observed at all times. Quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control complies with code and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies. Interdepartmental relations are not adversely affected by this individual. No problems exist in these areas.
- Maintains inventory and is able to contact vendor for availability of parts/equipment, writes out a purchase order for the same and present all information to Supervision for approval.
- Serves as safety liaison between staff and supervision for the Facility Operations Department.
- Employee demonstrates a high level of skill, knowledge in areas of specialization, of codes in areas of expertise, and follows them to the best of situation and/or ability. Provides leadership and is able to train fellow staff members in areas of responsibility, and is able to perform many of the duties found in the department.
- Willingly responds to all requests by Supervision. Assists trades personnel with general helper responsibilities and duties as assigned. Assists and/or completes assigned work during non-routine circumstances with a positive attitude. (Includes: snow removal, floods, fire, utility interruptions etc.). Problems in completing the assigned work are reported to Supervision immediately. Responds immediately to alarms throughout the facility.

- Capable of reading and interpreting all types of blue prints, sketches and diagrams.
- All repairs, alterations, modifications and installations are completed in a normally acceptable fashion as established by Supervision and the better judgment of the employee. Problems in this area should be reported to Supervision immediately. At the conclusion of a job, all equipment (scaffolding, hand trucks, ladders, dollies, etc.) is returned to proper storage areas and safely secured.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and continuing education. Attends in-services and meetings as required
- Instructs electrician in the maintenance of existing panel boxes including the replacement of circuit breakers; troubleshoots electrical circuits in order to eliminate potential hazards and replace, repair or install new components of high voltage electrical distribution systems. Installs and/or replaces starters, switches, receptacles, circuit lines, etc. as needed repairs and installs light fixtures; replaces ballast's as needed. Coordinates, supervises and performs generator tests including contractor assistance as required.
- Is fully responsible to oversee the safe and efficient operation of all hospital physical plant machinery and equipment including participating in the coordination of shut downs of systems during new installation, training of staff personnel and establish contracts for its continued operation.
- All hand and power tools (including welders, arbor press, hydraulic jack, and jack hammer) are utilized in conjunction with proper safety equipment at all times.
- Frequent contact with hospital departments, medical staff, employees, visitors and patients, vendors and company sales representatives.
- Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with all personnel, and the public.
- Demonstrates good communication and safety skills as they relate to patient population.
- Uses professional courtesy when communicating by telephone, 2-way radio, and writing.
- Performs repairs to Hospital motor vehicles and grounds equipment when necessary.
- Assists the Property & Grounds maintaining grounds, courtyard functions and set-ups, snow removal and its related equipment as directed.

- Schedules shifts and oversees daily operation of high pressure steam generating plant and auxiliary equipment,
- Responsible for weekly reports identifying, but not limited to, the following; fuel oil and natural gas consumption, water, BTU s produced, make-up water generated, chiller plant,
- Insure that [unit/department/division] is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations
- Familiar with BMS and fire alarm system monitoring and operation,
- Capable to work independently to, troubleshooting and maintain equipment
- Knowledgeable of steam supply and distribution
- Responsible to perform emergency repair and coordinate with outside contractor as needed,
- Must be available to respond to emergency situation during off hours,
