ED Clinical Nurse Educator(RN)

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. The ED Clinical Nurse Educator is a registered nurse who works as an expert practitioner within a specialized field of nursing. This individual is responsible for evaluating and implementing evidence-based practice, education, and professional development, within the ED. They serve as a clinical resource for the ED Nursing staff for bedside care. In addition, they will focus on new graduate nurses development within the ED.

Duties:

  1. Consistently exercises appropriate judgment and discretion in the provision of duties.
  2. Provides leadership in assessing, providing, and evaluating education and practice needs. Utilizes internal and external resources to enhance nursing practice and staff development.
  3. Participates/Leads various committees as needed with focus on nursing practice and bedside consultation.
  4. Serves as a role model, clinical expert, and mentor.
  5. Maintains/facilitates compliance with regulatory standards.
  6. Assists with development and coordination of competency-based orientation programs.
  7. Facilitates competency evaluation, unit orientation, and the preceptor program for assigned areas.
  8. Collaborates with members of the health care team to plan and implement changes in practice to improve quality of care.
  9. Participates in hospital clinical orientation and the nurse residency program.
  10. Coordinates and teaches ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, Basic Arrhythmia, and other courses as appropriate.
  11. Provides direction and consultation to staff and Nursing Directors, Managers, Supervisors regarding review and revision of nursing practice policies and procedures .
  12. Participates and coordinates with staff development on student rotations, education offerings, and orientation.
  13. Completes frequent staff needs assessment and gap analysis of practice standards and quality outcomes.
  14. Supports staff by assisting them to identify their needs as they progress from novice to experts.
  15. Assists in the development of patient education materials.
  16. Collaborates with transition coordinators to identify patient needs and education requirements for patients and staff.
  17. Utilizes direct adult learning principles in educational offers for staff.
  18. Assists nurses to increase their skills in assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of patient care through individual instruction, in-service education, and patient care conferences.
  19. Plans and presents professional nursing programs.
  20. Functions as role model and clinical preceptor for professional nursing students affiliated with ARMC.
  21. Collaborates with community organizations as a resource for health education.
  22. Identifies relevant clinical practice questions and uses Evidence-based implementation practices.
  23. Utilizes evidence based practices findings to assist staff to improve quality of care for patients.
  24. Performs direct patient education activities.
  25. Facilitates orientation, annual competencies and continuing education for individual departments.
  26. Facilitates PI projects based on clinical evidence.
  27. Facilitates communication of policy, procedure and protocol changes that affect practice in each area where identified.
  28. Identifies department-specific equipment and products requiring education.
  29. Facilitates education on new equipment and products.
  30. Works with other educators and Clinical Nurse Practice Coordinators to develop cross-departmental educational programs.
  31. Responsible for education tracking of assigned employees while communicating delinquencies to employee, ED director and Staff Development manager.
  32. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and clinical competency by obtaining a minimum of 15 continuing education contact hours on an annual basis.

Qualifications

Requirements:

BSN required; Master's in related field preferred. Current South Carolina RN (or qualifying state) license.

Previous management experience required. Minimum of 3-5 years of emergency nursing experience required.

BLS, ACLS, PALS; NRP & TNCC within first 90 days required; professional certification preferred.

Knowledge of human resources management, program development, fiscal management skills, and familiarity with regulatory and accrediting agency standards needed.
