Position Highlights

The Community Outreach Professional is responsible for implementing pre-employment transition services in local schools and working together with schools and adult service agencies to build community capacity for preparing youth with disabilities to become employed after graduation. The position will be responsible for providing work based learning experiences, working with local businesses, and providing training in community settings. The Community Outreach Professional communicates and shares information, while engaging families and students with disabilities. This person will work with educators to develop and provide direct vocational services and individualized supports for students with disabilities. The Community Outreach Professional will provide training on job sites, collect data, share resources, and maintain follow-up communication with local sites. This position will work in Window Rock, Arizona and surrounding communities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide direct services and individualized instruction and support for youth ages 14 to 22 primarily in community settings and local businesses.
  • Work with employers, develop business relationships, identify work experience and summer employment opportunities, provide training for the student worker, and teach school personnel through a train-the-trainer approach.
  • Communicate, share information, and engage families and students with disabilities
  • Work collaboratively with school, vocational rehabilitation, and adult provider personnel to develop and implement pre-employment transition services in local schools.
  • Assist school communities with building capacity to provide work based learning opportunities for students with disabilities.
  • Provide technical assistance and be the liaison for multiple participating schools.
  • Collect data and success stories, contribute to informational materials and resource development, and monitor and provide follow-up services at participating sites.
  • Participate in project, team, and departmental meetings; work collaboratively with the transition and employment team; share needs, experiences, and opportunities; and communicate with project staff and administration.
  • Contribute to model development of strategies and effective practices that assist schools with building capacity to develop a work based learning program.
  • Identify and develop innovative approaches that prepare youth with disabilities for work and promote improved post-school employment outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.
