This person is responsible for the successful execution of technical solutions to support a daily goal of safe, reliable production and a capital portfolio in excess of $100M/year. The Engineer Manager will report to the Borger Nitrogen Operations General Manager.

What you will do:



  • Provide performance management of engineering leadership and provide overall direction for site engineering personnel: Engineers, Engineers in Training and Technologists

    • Disciplines include Chemical/Process, Process Safety, Turnaround, Project Management, and Engineering Systems.


  • Work within the Borger Leadership Team to identify and prioritize operational issues; then execute solutions with a focus on risk mitigation and minimization
  • Provides direction to Engineering Leadership on prioritization of projects, activities, and deliverables
  • Accountable for implementation and stewardship of Nutrien Engineering, Process Safety Management, and Project Management standards, practices, and RAGAGEPs.
  • Plan, develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for Engineering groups, tracking progress, and adjusting as necessary
  • Provide stewardship on successful quality execution of projects by engineering including capital projects, non-routine projects and design changes
  • Provide engineering support to site for ad hoc requests, incident investigation follow up, and Continuous Improvement projects
  • Provide oversight to Risk Management Processes including Business Standard Practice Implementation, Process Hazard Analysis, and PSM Corrective Action Plan closure
  • Establish strong, collaborative partnerships across site and across the business unit
  • Lead turnarounds and unplanned outages as required
  • Develop and manage budget for engineering teams, steward to Department budget and work collaboratively with site leadership team to achieve overall site budget



What you will bring:



  • Engineering degree with a minimum of 14 years' experience
  • Engineering, maintenance, project and/or operations experience at an operating facility or a heavy industrial site
  • Technical knowledge of Ammonia and Urea production processes will be an asset
  • Previous experience in a leadership and management role
  • Experience in developing and championing Management Systems at an operating facility is considered an asset
  • Strong strategic thinking, decision making and project management skills
  • Very strong analytical, risk evaluation, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and an ability to interact with and influence a variety of cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization
