Assistant General Counsel, Food Regulation

Functional Overview:

Job Description:

The purpose of this role is to provide strategic legal advice regarding food laws and regulation in support of the company's business objectives, including applying expert legal analysis to ensure compliance with global food laws and regulations, engagement with policy makers to shape food laws and regulations, and develop strategic plans to advance the company's regulatory compliance programs. This role will be based in Washington, D.C., driving engagement with U.S. federal regulatory authorities and coordination on food policy issues, in partnership with our government affairs team.

This role is based at our office in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:

• Provide expert legal interpretation, analysis and recommendations on food regulation to ensure compliance and enable business plans
• Partner with technical teams and government affairs to develop strategies to impact food regulation in support of company priorities to deliver affordable, accessible, safe and nutritious food, including external advocacy and engagement
• Closely collaborate with colleagues in law and government affairs, and with company nutrition, food science and safety technical experts, to execute responsibilities and achieve company goals
• Serve as a trusted legal advisor to company's Innovation, Technology, and Quality function

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• 10+ years experience in food regulatory law with deep familiarity with food regulatory agencies
• Admitted to practice and in good standing with a U.S. state bar
• Has a proven record of making tough recommendations, exercising sound judgement, and influencing senior leaders in food regulatory law
• Has ability to impact food regulation and policy development
• Clearly understands the food industry and current challenges and opportunities
• Familiar with food law and regulatory schemes in other jurisdictions

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $169700.00 - $283000.00 / Annually.
