Position Purpose







As a member of the organization's supervisory team performance includes demonstration of the following leadership competencies: Demonstrates ownership, creates improvement and innovation, creates work environment marked by pride/joy, manages financial performance, builds bridges/collaborates, adaptability and integrity and trust. As a member of the security team, expected performance includes demonstration of certain accountabilities including leadership, communication, mentoring, empowerment, and resource management.

Performing armed postings to include Rescue Team duties as defined by Renown Health Policy is a key component of this description.

The Lead Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a secure environment for employees, patients, and visitors at all Renown Health facilities by providing service of the highest quality, which optimizes our patient's healthcare experience. The Lead Security Officer must possess all the knowledge, skills and abilities of a Security Officer and must have the leadership abilities to guide the officers in their daily work. The incumbent will strive to reach the highest in professional standards and to promote this standard to all his/her subordinates.

The Lead Rescue Officer will constantly build bridges with all departments within Renown Health to promote and support a secure and safe environment.









Nature and Scope







Assist the Security Supervisor in the operational efficiency of the Security organization. As the Lead Security Officer, responsible for maintaining a high quality, community-based security organization for the health system. Responsible for the support of all security officers on the shift assigned.

Conduct shift briefings, pass out assignments, pass out keys, radios, and ensure all equipment is signed out. Ensure all officers are kept up to date on all new guidelines and procedures and understand how to implement them. Is responsible for the staffing of the assigned shift and oncoming shift in the event of a sick call or extraordinary circumstances that would require extra officers.

Ensure that any investigative reports are finished in a concise and timely manner and forwarded to leadership for possible follow-up. Ensure that officers are performing duties consistent with the guidelines and procedures established.

Is required to put first the ability to excel at professionalism, exercising restraint to others' errant words and actions, quality decision making, being slow to anger, and understanding that being an armed officer is a tool to accomplishing all other aspects of this position. This nature of this position is quality of character, decision making and implantation of successful decisions.

Having the understanding that the armed requirement for this position is merely a tool utilized to provide quality customer service and successfully perform all Rescue Team duties. Being armed is not the focus of the position it is a certification requirement.

Acts in the capacity of a Violence Prevention Champion, assists in teaching employee's active shooter protocol, stop-the-bleed process, and workplace violence prevention.

Is responsible for responding to all Rescue Team events as defined by Renown Health Policy, armed calls and armed postings assigned and ensuring the making of reports and maintaining records.

Rescue Officers will rotate into all Security Officer duties in order to maintain their Security Officer skills, facility and unit knowledge base as well as perfecting their guest relations approach.

The assigned incumbent will ensure proper response to alarm calls at off-site locations and will call in the appropriate police agency when necessary. The incumbent will be responsible to pass on to the Security Supervisor any incident that occurred during the shift assigned. The incumbent will follow up on any initial complaints and intervene as necessary and will report all these incidents to leadership.

Responsible and accountable for the performance of all employees under the Lead Officer's immediate control. Works to build a cooperative and proactive department using current law enforcement, security, and crime prevention technologies.

Responsible for responding to the needs and inquires of the Renown Health community and strives for a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Supports and creates a community-based model and sets standards for cross-disciplinary work to improve customer service.

Responsible to maintain patient confidentiality and inform leadership assigned to of all instances of necessary statutory reporting to state and federal agencies.

Responsible to promote crime prevention and proactive techniques to reduce crime, theft and loss of Renown Health property and work with other members of Renown Health to reduce crime and create a safe and secure environment.

Develop and implement on-going improvement projects to enhance the operations of the security and safety of Renown Health. Will be required to administer patient restraints when written authorization is provided by an approved medical practitioner.

Successfully train with local law enforcement agencies in order to be proficient with NFPA 3000 requirements, The Joint Commission Active Shooter standards as well as understanding regional protocols for an active shooter.

Must expertly understand and practice restraint in entering patient events involving non-armed Security Personnel or Renown Health employees, when armed, except as allowed by Renown Health Policy.

Must fully understand and successfully test annually on the Renown Health Rescue Team, Use-of-Force and Shooting Policy.

Must be able to work all shifts and during times of emergency be able to respond to Renown Health when called. Overtime, including mandatory overtime, may be required when necessary to ensure minimum staffing levels.

Will be required to be cross trained as dispatchers to assist when needed.

Collaborates with all employees throughout Renown Health in establishing and facilitating a secure and safe environment. Must be able to work all shifts and during times of emergency be able to respond to Renown Health when called.

This position does not provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

A high school degree preferred; a college degree in Criminal Justice or another related field preferred.



Experience:



A strong understanding of police and security principles and 3 years' experience in military/law enforcement/security operations desirable.

Healthcare security experience preferred.

High Level of motivation and creativity in problem solving preferred

Excellent customer and employee service skills preferred.

Strong team building skills and self-motivation are preferred.

A strong sense of just culture and policy compliance is preferred.



License(s):



Valid State of Nevada or California driver's license and ability to pass Renown Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria upon hire.

A State of Nevada Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW) obtained within 90-days of hire. Nevada Concealed Carry Weapons Permit required within 90 days or possesses a valid CCW issued by order of H.R.218 - Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004. CCW Permit delays by the appropriate law enforcement agency does not penalize the Rescue Officer from meeting the CCW requirement.



Certification(s):



AHA certified Heart Saver certification required within 12 months of hire.

A valid State of Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certificate [Handgun Only] required within 12 months of hire.

Department approved handcuffing certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Department approved OC spray certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Department approved de-escalation training certification is required within 12 months of hire.

Certified Protection Professional and/or Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator preferred.

IAHSS Advanced Security Officer is preferred.

Successful Annual Background check to be conducted annually



Computer / Typing:



Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
