To support that challenge, the Market Segment Team within Vegetable Seeds Development is currently seeking a Trialing and Product Placement Scientist, to be accountable for trialing and product selection for the US desert southwest - particularly the Imperial Valley of California. Successful delivery of the role will result in high quality data and analysis on crop phenotypes, trial environments, and crop x environment interactions to optimize selection, placement, and success of new crop varieties, and ongoing optimization of trialing strategies and methods.

Role Purpose:

  • Manage, and drive excellence in R&D trialing for a diverse portfolio of vegetable crops, including cool season (Leafy, Brassicas) and warm season (Cucurbits, Peppers, Sweet Corn) crops in the desert southwest production areas.
  • Be a high impact team member of the Seeds Development team within R&D, and collaborate seamlessly among Research, Marketing, and Sales teams.
  • Develop strong knowledge of vegetable crops and regional markets, build an industry best network of customer-focused collaborations, and help to solve customer needs by delivering high performing new crop varieties.
  • Apply your knowledge of customer needs and product performance to being a strategic partner for Germplasm Development and Product Development teams.

Job Duties:

  • Manage and execute comprehensive trials from planning to data analysis, including site selection, sowing, harvesting, and performance evaluation, utilizing proprietary and commercial databases to deliver quality data for product advancement decisions and launch strategies.
  • Collaborate with Market Segment Lead and Germplasm Development Leads on trial planning, site selection, and grower agreements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with seed dealers, growers, and processors while enhancing knowledge of Syngenta Vegetable Seeds products.
  • Foster a customer-centric culture and adhere to Syngenta's standards for biosafety, health, safety, environment, compliance, ethics, and quality.
  • Travel extensively within the market region to track and complete trials, with occasional overnight travel to other market regions (5-10%).

Qualifications

  • BSc in Horticulture, Agronomy, Agriculture, Plant Breeding, or related field, plus 3 years of experience with relevant crops and field work.
  • Knowledge of vegetable crop markets, variety selection, plant breeding processes, and agronomy; experience working with growers and companies in the vegetable production value chain.
  • Proficiency in designing, managing, and analyzing field trials across multiple environments, with ability to interpret data for product placement recommendations.
  • Excellent analytical skills to synthesize experimental results into clear, concise product and market insights.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (Spanish preferred) with a customer-focused, solution-driven, and adaptable approach.

Additional Information

Salary for this role is $66,000 - $100,000 per year.
