A Brief Overview
The AVP Supply Chain (SC) and Services & Logistics (SLC) Operations role is a position that leads, supports, and directs operational aspects of the non-clinical support services associated with the offsite service center, as assigned. Under the direction of the VP Supply Chain, AVP position is designed intentionally to be a generalist leadership role that can adjust to the needs of a dynamic organization. Significant experience in healthcare leadership at all levels of an organization, hospital operations experience, and healthcare strategy experience are required for this role. An extensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities that exist within healthcare operations and strong business acumen are essential qualifications for this role. This role requires very strong communication skills and the ability to influence individuals and teams at all levels of the organization.

The AVP can represent the VP of Supply Chain as needed at any meeting and functions as an executive leader at CHOP and, as such, exhibits executive behaviors at all times. This position aligns with senior executives, business and clinical leaders to share the responsibility for ensuring overall superior business performance across all functional areas within the Service & Logistics Center.

The AVP SC Logistics and (SLC) Operations serves as a business leader, exercising strong communications and collaboration skills that support an integrative and effective matrix-based organizational model. This position leads and motivates cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams to achieve tactical and strategic goals. This position would have direct reports as well as matrix relationships across several functions. Additionally, this position ensures compliance with all CHOP policies and procedures and regulatory requirements while fostering patient safety and promoting transformational innovation.

What you will do

  • Strategy
  • Develops the strategic plan for the functions for the Supply Chain (SC) Logistics department, in collaboration with SC Executive Leadership and the Supply Chain Steering Committee. The SC Logistics team includes operations at the Services & Logistics Center (SLC), Philadelphia campus, King of Prussia (KOP) campus and the CHOP ambulatory network.
  • Keeps abreast of industry best practices related to healthcare SC. Is informed and knowledgeable of industry trends that could impact supply availability or service performance, i.e., supply and equipment innovations, Group Purchasing Organizations, developments in the supplier community, supply resiliency, CPI/PPI, and world events. Remain abreast of external conditions and forces that could impact CHOP operations. Defines and implements best practices across the industry.
  • Develops strategy for SLC to optimize CHOP's asset, identifies need for expansion of services, expansion of space, new business opportunities.
  • Communicates the vision and priorities of the department within SC and to stakeholders.
  • Establishes metrics and goals to track progress of annual initiatives.
  • Serves as the Supply Chain Safety leader. On a rotational basis, manages the daily safety huddle and reports out on CHOP Daily Operations Huddle. Covers weekly on-call rotation to coordinate and respond to emergency events or operational issues and respond to leadership concerns.
  • Leadership
  • Facilitates development and achievement of professional and personal goals for supply chain staff and self. Enables employee development and growth by building out individual skills, knowledge, and experience to ensure team members can effectively help each other and maximize the team's collective ability to advance defined objectives.
  • Establishes and implements supply chain best practices. Defines policies and establishes benchmarks to compare across healthcare and industry.
  • Effectively recruits, orients, develop and retain a talented and diverse workforce in supply chain.
  • Serves as the Supply Chain Safety leader. On a rotational basis, manages the daily safety huddle and reports out on CHOP Daily Operations Huddle. Covers weekly on-call rotation to coordinate and respond to emergency events or operational issues and respond to leadership concerns.
  • Establishes, cultivates, and maintains professional relationships with CHOP executives and leaders.
  • Direct, supervise and collaborate with various administrative leaders for SLC departments, in direct and matrix relationships.
  • Partners with Human Resources to ensure all correct interpretation/implementation and application of Hospital Policies and Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Models CHOP's ICare values. Holds others accountable for living these values.
  • Budget Formulation/Management
  • Responsible for forecasting, developing, and managing SC Logistics budget for all areas ofo targeted expense. Budgetary responsibility exceeds $10M
  • Plans for and implements new business development or CHOP expansion.
  • Operational Management
  • Provide overall direction and management of the scope, timing, budget, and delivery of services for the Services and Logistics Center, including coordination across multiple service departments, provide excellent customer service center and track service level agreements.
  • Drive and oversee optimization of the operations and financial performance of the Logistics operations across the CHOP enterprise, ensuring alignment with enterprise and CHOP strategy and goals.
  • Responsible for driving operational excellence across the Logistics Team; materials distribution, inventory management, line and mailroom services and patient equipment/sleep surfaces.
  • Assures compliance from all team members and supplies to CHOP policies and procedures. Holds staff and leaders accountable to safety, environmental and regulatory requirements and periodic training related to such.
  • Directs and manages the 3rd party supplier relationship for material distribution. Defines the annual performance metrics; shares with SC Logistics leaders to achieve excellence and manage budgetary Works with SC contracting to hold supplier accountable to all contractual obligations.
  • Manages other 3rd party supplier relationship for SC suppliers provides services within the SLC, including Warehouse Management System, trucking service, warehouse mechanical suppliers.
  • Collaborates with Facilities and Real Estate management to maintain SLC building operations and grounds. Approves invoices for services and supplies related to building maintenance.
  • Sponsors and directs continuous improvement projects; removes barriers and drives for progress.
  • Lead and/or participate in appropriate meetings including governance, program/project executive sponsors, steering committees and other targeted committees, etc.

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Supply Chain, Finance, Business, or similar field of study. Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree Supply Chain, Finance, Business or similar field of study. Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least ten (10) years Progressive operational management responsibility in Supply Chain, Logistics or related field, preferably in a hospital and/or healthcare environment Required
  • At least five (5) years Previous experience in Lean Methodologies or Process Improvement Framework experience in a leadership role Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Deep understanding of healthcare or logistics operations. Preferred experience SC technology, contract development, content management, supplier enablement, ERP applications, reporting & analytics. Sterile processing operations knowledge would be beneficial (Required proficiency)
  • Experience with managing 3rd party relationships to achieve operational excellence (Required proficiency)
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of Business Intelligence software capabilities (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of healthcare GPOs operations. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Knowledge of Value Analysis process in a healthcare environment. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Possesses excellent communication skills at multiple levels of the enterprise. Ability to prepare and present presentations and financial analysis to senior leaders. (Required proficiency)
  • Able to motivate and facilitate teams to successful resolution of challenging issues. (Required proficiency)
  • Project management skills, knowledge, and experience. Ability to effectively interact and collaborate successfully with people of all levels. (Required proficiency)
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; detail oriented and hands-on performer. Experience leading cross functional teams in complex activities across departmental and entity boundaries. (Required proficiency)
  • Develop and promote creative and critical thinking to develop compelling and innovative strategies. (Required proficiency)
  • Change management expertise - black belt or similar certification preferred. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Project Management Certification (PMP) - Project Management Institute (PMI) - - Preferred or
  • Certified Procurement Management (CPM) - American Healthcare Materials Management Association - - Preferred
