Position description

The Porter Bioinspired lab (PorterBioinspired.com) is looking for a qualified, creative, highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to work on the characterization of fungal structures. The postdoctoral scholar will be responsible for:



  • Collecting wildtype fungal structures or culturing and growing them in the lab.

  • Perform characterization tests including imaging, mechanical, and chemical testing and subsequent analysis.

  • Analyze data to create theoretical models to describe the material behavior.
  • Share research results by writing academic papers and presenting them at technical conferences.
  • Help with oversight of graduate and undergraduate assistants working on this and related projects.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications

The applicant applying for the Postdoctoral Scholar must have a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Preferred qualifications

Preferred Qualifications (if applicable):

* Experience with experimental research, specifically using material characterization methods is preferred.

* Preference may be given to applicants with experience with biological materials such as fungi, including culturing methods.

* Basic experience with software such as MatLab, Python, or R for data visualization or analysis is desirable.
