The Corporate Development Analyst plays an important role in driving the company's strategic growth by helping to develop and execute on a range of corporate development transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, strategic alliances and partnerships, and corporate venture investments. Leveraging a high degree of analytical and interpersonal skills, the role is responsible for supporting these potential investment opportunities through performing extensive financial analyses and modeling; collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop insights, prepare business cases and present recommendations; and participating in due diligence and integration activities. The role is part of the Corporate Strategy Organization and reports directly to the Vice President, Corporate Development. Primary duties and responsibilities
- Support Ciena's corporate strategy and strategic objectives though the identification, assessment and execution of corporate development transactions
- Perform competitive intelligence, financial modeling and market analysis to provide insights on market trends and identify possible corporate development opportunities in existing, adjacent or new markets
- Conduct comprehensive quantitative and qualitative financial analysis, modeling and evaluation of corporate development opportunities
- Collaborate with business leaders to construct business cases, financial projections and valuation models for potential corporate development opportunities
- Prepare materials and reports for senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations based on market research and financial analysis
- Help to organize, create and deliver presentations to all levels of management on pipeline of potential opportunities and status of in-progress transactions
- Manage and maintain corporate development databases to track opportunities and key projects and metrics
- Participate in the due diligence of potential corporate development opportunities, including compiling and analyzing information, identifying risks and opportunities, and conducting competitor analysis
- Participate in other stages of the corporate development process in partnership with the Corporate Strategy Organization and cross-functional stakeholders, including negotiation, structuring, integration planning and integration of transactions
Education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
- Minimum 1-3 years of work experience in finance & accounting, corporate development or M&A at a corporation, investment bank, private equity or management consultant
- Experience with complex financial analysis and modeling
- Understanding of and experience with basic elements of M&A transactions and acquisition agreements
- Knowledge of and experience with the telecommunications networking industry would be an asset

#LI-SG The annual pay range for this position in USA is 92,400 - 147,300 USD The annual pay range for this position in Canada is 81,200 - 129,800 CDN
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
