SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS


JOB TITLE: Mgr. Application Systems

REQUISITION ID: INF00CX

DEPARTMENT: IT Power Delivery Applications - Topeka General Office or Kansas City Headquarters

LOCATION: Topeka, KS

Kansas City, MO

PAY RANGE: $120,600 - $160,800

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

As the Manager of Application Systems, you will be responsible for leading a team of employees and contracted resources in addition to an offshore team to provide overall technology leadership and management oversight of a suite of IT applications. The successful candidate will work to foster a culture of engagement, build strategic relationships with business partners, and ensure system reliability, performance optimization, financial accountability, and security of these applications.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, other related field, or equivalent work experience. A minimum of 8 years of functional experience in information technology or business operations with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant leadership experience is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

* Provides overall people leadership for the Work & Asset Management (Maximo) team by creating an inclusive work environment and working continually to meet human capital objectives aimed at building capacity and capabilities of employees to meet business goals.

* Provides leadership and daily oversight of the Applications Portfolio, ensuring:


  1. Business needs are served and supported.
  2. Adequate disaster recovery plans, contracts and infrastructure are in place to support continuous business operations.
  3. All applications are kept in proper working order.
  4. Systems performance and service level requirements are met.
  5. Production schedules are established and adhered to.
  6. Installation and documentation comply with stated corporate change control policies and standards.
  7. Adequate resources are available to support project implementation.
  8. Resources are used efficiently and cost-effectively.
  9. Application ownership is a fundamental principle that guides every-day decisions to achieve a reliable, secured, maintainable, and value-driven portfolio of applications.


* Provides leadership and management.


  1. Develops, manages, and coordinates the direction of assigned Application Portfolio to best serve the company's business needs in a changing business climate.
  2. Ensures that applications are positioned for timely migration to next-generation technologies.
  3. Ensures that applications are reliable, at the appropriate release level, meet Evergy standards, are secured, and an appropriate lifecycle (new, grow, maintain, retire/replace) forecast is maintained.
  4. Assists with strategic planning and setting departmental goals.
  5. Creates objectives to build and grow system capabilities to support business and regulatory requirements.
  6. Communicates strategy to direct reports with clear objectives and hold them accountable for achieving stated objectives with outcome driven results.
  7. Ability to communicate goals and results, employee performance and engagement and complex technical details in technical and business terms to senior leadership.
  8. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with local and or remote personnel at all levels across the organization.
  9. Serves on various committees and task forces as necessary to further promote corporate goals and the effectiveness of Information Technology.


* Establishes and maintains key stakeholder relationships.


  1. Maintains and grows relationships with senior level business leaders and key vendors.
  2. Collaborates with other departments to support cross departmental priorities.
  3. Promotes the appropriate use of applications across with the business to ensure maintainability and reliability.
  4. Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with IT Infrastructure teams regarding the impact of applications on database, hardware, and communication infrastructure.
  5. Supports the activities of the business units and assures that adequate technical support is available. Collaborates with the business units on changing business needs forecasting support and enhancement needs across the portfolio.


* Completes departmental administrative tasks.


  1. Assists, coordinates, and influences the activities of present and potential users to ensure adherence to departmental sector plans and budgets, ensuring the cost-effective utilization of application systems.
  2. Contributes to the cost-effective operation of the department by providing input into the preparation and coordination of the O&M and Capital Budgets and Manpower Plans. Assists with quarterly and cumulative cost reporting.
  3. Assures the administrative process for the department is completed in a timely and accurate manner using invoice tracking systems, expediting application deliveries and prompt payment of invoices.
  4. Ensures that Evergy protects the investment in licensed third-party software and remains in compliance with all licensing agreements.
  5. Ensures cooperation and compliance with corporate audits.
  6. Ensures that the workforce maintains a safe work environment and practices across the organization.

Working Conditions: Normal office working conditions. Must be able to work remotely/independently after initial on-boarding/training.
