About Us: The Nachury Laboratory at UCSF School of Medicine is dedicated to understanding how the primary cilium shapes developmental and sensory signaling. Our research aims to bridge basic cell biology to disease mechanisms, with a focus on conditions such as retinal degeneration, obesity, kidney malformations, and skeletal anomalies. We are a diverse team of students, postdoctoral fellows, and researchers with expertise in biochemistry, proteomics, live imaging, and animal models.

Position Overview: We are seeking enthusiastic and talented Research Specialists at the Junior, Assistant, Associate, or Full level to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in a leading research lab, contribute to groundbreaking studies, and develop advanced technical and analytical skills. Our past Specialists have published first-author papers and advanced to graduate school, medical school, and careers in biotech.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide technical assistance to students and postdoctoral fellows in techniques such as mammalian cell culture, protein purification, immunocytochemistry, fluorescence imaging, and mouse functional studies.
  • Conduct experiments under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, with opportunities to develop independence and lead your own research projects.
  • Assist in preparing figures for publications and grants, gaining authorship on research papers.
  • Maintain mammalian cell cultures and establish stable cell lines using CRISPR/Cas9.
  • Manage general lab organization, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventories, and adhering to safety regulations.


Required Qualifications:




  • Junior Rank: Baccalaureate degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field (or in process of obtaining) or at least four years of research experience.

  • Assistant Rank: Master's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field (or in process of obtaining) or a baccalaureate degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field (or in process of obtaining) with 3 or more years of research experience

  • Associate Rank: Master's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field (or in process of obtaining) or at least five to ten years of research experience, with a significant record of academic accomplishment.

  • Full Rank: Terminal degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field (or in process of obtaining) or ten or more years of research experience, with a substantial record of academic accomplishment and independent research planning and execution.
  • Efficient and organized with meticulous record-keeping skills.
  • Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Applicant's materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.
  • Applicants must have obtained the degree requirement for the Specialist rank by the time of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • At least one year of laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with basic biochemistry (SDS-PAGE, Western blot), molecular biology (primer design, PCR), and mammalian cell culture.
  • Associate Rank: Terminal degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field by the time of hire.
