About the Department:

The Liberty and Law Center is an academic center within the Antonin Scalia Law School. Its mission is to provide a forum to learn about the role of law in protecting and promoting liberty, challenge government encroachment upon liberty, and lead the discussion of the law's role in protecting and promoting liberty.

About the Position:

The Program and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for the successful execution of Liberty and Law Center events and communications. Reporting to the Liberty and Law Center's Director, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, program and event development, event and program management, communications planning and execution, and administrative duties.

The position may be required to work early mornings, evenings, and some weekends as needed.

Responsibilities:

Program and Event Development:



  • Collaborates with Center management to develop event and program concepts that further the Center's mission;
  • Plans the execution and details of programs and events to ensure well-executed and impactful events. Such execution and details are to be determined, in consultation with Center management, based on the nature of the event and program; and
  • Coordinates with collaborators, speakers, and other potential stakeholders using appropriate methods to determine event structure and content.


Event and Program Management:



  • Coordinates (e.g., calls, emails, etc.) with vendors to ensure event success;
  • Creates event invitations and response templates using event software program to elicit positive response and attendance;
  • Ensures all aspects of the events are executed in a timely manner (e.g., advertising and registration, set-up, coordination with speakers, necessary travel arrangements, etc.);
  • Manages problems as they occur; and
  • Provides a positive experience for attendees.


Communications Planning and Execution:



  • Promotes the Liberty Center's programs, events, and research through a variety of online platforms to increase interaction with the public;
  • Generates content for social media, web, email, and other communications to increase Center's public profile; plans timelines for the foregoing and executes on that timeline;
  • Maintains the Center's contacts database, including organizing and updating contact information and email lists; and
  • Designs flyers, newsletters, and collateral, including donor communications to ensure professional and engaging content.


Administrative:



  • Supports all day-to-day aspects of running an academic center to ensure the Center is able to fulfill its mission including communicating with other law school staff, research, managing mail, drafting donor letters, and other tasks necessary to conduct the Center's operations;
  • Works with finance to ensure all required payments are made and manages expense reimbursements; and
  • Manages office supplies to ensure effective and efficient office functioning.


Other duties related to the position as assigned.

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Some event planning experience (typically 0-2 years);
  • Knowledge of basic financial transactions;
  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities effectively, ability to work independently with detail-orientation and accuracy;
  • Demonstrated skill and proficiency in working with Microsoft Office suite;
  • Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communication;
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, and detail-oriented; and
  • Ability to interact with persons at all levels, including high-level legal officials and academics, in a professional manner.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience using email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact;
  • Experience with event management software such as Cvent;
  • Experience with graphic design;
  • Experience with WordPress;
  • Experience working at a legal or public policy organization;
  • Strong interest in law and public policy; and
  • Interest in knowledge of freedom of speech and civil rights.
