Summary/Responsibilities

This position performs the installation, repair and maintenance to facility equipment, systems and components at fossil sites which includes corrective and preventive electrical, mechanical, controls maintenance tasks. The GT will interact with Variable Frequency Drive, Industrial wiring, high voltage, panel wiring, and motor controls. The position will also assist Engineering with modifications/revisions to plant systems, equipment and/or components and assists other employees in the performance of all maintenance tasks that are beyond the maintenance department's capability. GT must perform and follow Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures on equipment such as Boilers, steam turbines, pumps, valves, chillers and high voltage equipment.

Position has call-out responsibilities and must be available to work all hours as needed, day or night, weekends, or holidays, and in all weather conditions. Requires ability to travel and stay overnight to various locations and the ability to work/respond on short notice to support planned/unplanned/emergency site events. The work schedule could vary between 5x8's, 4x10's and may require shift work and will be 12 hour rotating shift schedule. Willing to travel approximately 5-10% for training and assist other plant sites when required.

The GT will be required to enter the Regulated and Renewable Energy Florida (RREF) Development Program and will be required to progress to a Generation Technician III level. Incumbents must comply with all requirements under the training program, which involves, but is not limited to, training timelines and periodic performance assessments.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) Test at the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) level
  • Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) Test
  • Ability to successfully complete the RREF Development Program for Generation Technicians. Experience in troubleshooting and correcting electrical, mechanical and I&C problems.
  • Familiar with the usage of high-tech electronic test equipment and other testing instruments.
  • Proficient in alignment, basic machining, rigging and equipment inspection and repair
  • Able to maintain the DCS and related equipment.
  • Ability to monitor generating equipment, read and interpret equipment readings, and monitor continuous control processes both inside the control room and around the generating units.
  • Operations knowledge of coal plant stations.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience

Must possess a journeyman level proficiency in Electrical AND possess the ability to obtain progression level proficiency in Mechanical and I&C disciplines and in Operations. Management will determine the sequence in which progression skills and qualified journeyman skills are attained.

In lieu of a journeyman skill, must possess military experience/technical school training or previous work experience equivalent to a journeyman skill that may be assessed at a Journeyman level.

Licenses And/or Certificates

Valid Driver's License

Physical

Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment

Must be able to work around rotating equipment

Ability to work in the field with exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and humidity

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Ability to push/pull weights up to 50 lbs

Manual dexterity to operate small hand tools, turn small knobs, etc.

Ability to sit for 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck

Ability to stand a minimum of 5-6 hours

Ability to frequently climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights

Ability to frequently and repetitively crawl/bend/stoop/squat

Ability to read construction drawings and prints

Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as a hardhat, steel toed safety shoes, safety glasses, arc flash protective gear.

Ability to work around equipment that generates electromagnetic fields (EMF)

Ability to obtain and maintain respirator qualifications

Ability to work in confined spaces
