Job Summary UCSF and Stanford University, through very generous philanthropic donations, have formed the Weill Cancer Hub, which is a high-profile collaboration dedicated to transforming the landscape of cancer through the funding and implementation of large-scale collaborative projects.
The Weill Cancer Hub is a high-profile collaboration dedicated to transforming the landscape of cancer through the funding and implementation of large-scale collaborative projects. Projects will be large, high-risk, high-reward endeavors of up to $25M aimed to make a significant impact on cancer research and treatment, and each project will involve equal effort by researchers at UCSF and Stanford. This groundbreaking close collaboration between two world-class institutions will enable teams to harness the best that each institution has to offer.
They are seeking an Executive Director, Weill Cancer Hub with proven experience in program development and management to oversee the Weill Cancer Hub. The Executive Director will collaborate with the President of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, Alan Ashworth, PhD, FRS, and the Director of the Stanford Cancer Institute, Steven Artandi, MD, PhD, to provide high-level strategic development, and operational and administrative management of the Weill Cancer Hub to optimize operations and advance progress towards Weill Cancer Hub goals.
The Executive Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders to move collaborative research projects forward. The Executive Director will supervise operational, human resource, administrative, financial, and business functions for the Weill Cancer Hub as well as supervise 1-2 Program Managers dedicated to the Weill Cancer Hub.
All of these functions will be conducted in a collaborative fashion with the appropriate offices at each respective institution, given that the Weill Cancer Hub activities will be split evenly between the two institutions. The Executive Director will develop close collaborative working relationships with Weill Cancer Hub-funded investigators, relevant departments, and leadership across participating institutions, and other strategic partners. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $132,700 - $207,700 (Annual Rate). By unifying outstanding researchers and clinicians, the center minimizes cancer incidence, establishes new frontiers in cancer care, and improves our patients' lives. We have received the prestigious designation of "comprehensive" from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). We combine basic science, clinical research, epidemiology, cancer control and patient care throughout the University of California, San Francisco.

The Weill Cancer Hub is a high-profile collaboration between UCSF and Stanford, dedicated to transforming the landscape of cancer through the funding and implementation of large-scale collaborative projects. The Weill Cancer Hub plans to fund 8+ collaborative projects between UCSF and Stanford faculty over the next 10 years.
Required Qualifications
- Terminal degree in a related area (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) and / or equivalent experience / training required.
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience.
- Leadership experience in academic and / or government agencies.
- Academic background and recognized expertise in selected area of research.
- Demonstrated expertise building collaborations between academia, industrial and / or governmental agencies.
- Demonstrated expertise with program building within a leading academic institution for handling administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
- Expert oral and written communication skills.
- Expert ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
- Expert interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
- Expert ability to work collaboratively with dynamic and diverse group of faculty, staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expert fundraising experience.
- Expert negotiation skills.
