Job Title: Lead Pipe Designer (Designer III)

Location: Lockport, LA

Position Overview: The Lead Pipe Designer applies research and experience to develop designs, create integrated functional drawings, generate 3D product models, and extract product model data for production drawings. This role is also responsible for leading a specialized design team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Supervise and lead a specialized design team to accomplish departmental goals and objectives.
  • Assist the Production Engineering Manager in planning, organizing, and controlling departmental activities while contributing to the development of goals, objectives, and management systems.
  • Assist with various calculations, including strength of materials, weights, simple forces, and stresses, frequently referencing charts and tables.
  • Plan and coordinate daily work schedules for designers.
  • Prepare work orders for subordinate designers.
  • Review and check engineering deliverables produced by subordinates.
  • Conduct employee evaluations to assess productivity and efficiency.
  • Develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for vessel design.
  • Create equipment purchase specifications.
  • Review purchase specifications from other disciplines to ensure compliance and integration with the overall vessel design.
  • Ensure that engineering deliverables conform to design requirements and customer specifications.
  • Consult with vendors on project-related activities.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and the production department.


Qualifications:



  • Ten (10) years of marine design experience (AutoCAD and Ship Constructor preferred).


Skills:



  • Strong knowledge of USCG, ABS, SOLAS, and government shipbuilding standards.
  • Familiarity with marine systems and the shipbuilding industry.
  • Ability to coordinate and schedule team activities effectively.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capability to train and supervise junior AutoCAD operators.
