Automation Engineer (PLC) - EF MCS Upgrade Employment Type: Contract We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer (PLC) to support our clients EF MCS Upgrade project. This role is critical in upgrading the Manufacturing Control System (MCS), including replacing or updating 30 PLCs (PLC 5 and ControlLogix). The engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and optimizing automation solutions, ensuring compliance with project standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). The ideal candidate should have extensive experience with PLC programming, SCADA integration, validation, and commissioning in a regulated environment, as well as a deep understanding of process automation in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Key Responsibilities:
- PLC & Automation Support: Provide hands-on support for PLC programming, configuration, and troubleshooting for system upgrades.
- Documentation & Compliance: Support updates to functional and configuration specifications, ensuring compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements.
- Change Management: Assist in change control processes, impact assessments, and implementation strategies.
- Testing & Validation: Develop and execute test plans, commissioning protocols, and qualification documents (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Electrical & Wiring Checks: Verify electrical and wiring integrity during PLC replacements.
- System Integration: Implement PLC logic, messaging, phase logic, control modules, and ensure seamless integration with the new iFIX SCADA system.
- Process Optimization: Ensure loop tuning and process control optimization for enhanced system performance.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Provide post-startup support, troubleshooting, and resolving deviations during the suite's operational startup phase.
- Collaboration & Reporting: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including validation, process engineering, and IT, to ensure project success.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- A Master's degree is a plus but not required.
Work Experience Requirements:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in PLC programming, automation systems, and industrial controls.
- Strong expertise in Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC 5, and Rockwell Automation platforms.
- Experience integrating PLC systems with SCADA, particularly iFIX.
- Prior work experience in biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, or regulated industries with GMP, FDA, and validation exposure.
- Expertise in commissioning, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), loop tuning, and control logic development.
- Understanding of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and other industrial communication protocols.
- Familiarity with ISA-88 batch processing and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in an automated environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with tight project deadlines.
Estimated Min Rate: $45.00
Estimated Max Rate: $60.00
