Position description

Academic Coordinator I - Institute for Health Policy Studies

At the Institute for Health Policy Studies, Dr. Jeff Belkora and colleagues are developing a new approach to early health professions education. This involves bringing undergraduate students into UCSF as Health Professions Trainees. In this capacity, students develop their capabilities while contributing to patient care as healthcare navigator interns at UCSF. Dr. Belkora is conducting implementation research on this new program, known as the Patient Support Corps (https://healthpolicy.ucsf.edu/patient-support-corps).

As part of his role as Faculty Director of the Patient Support Corps, Dr. Belkora will directly supervise the Academic Coordinator. The Academic Coordinator role is to help Dr. Belkora implement, monitor, and evaluate and improve on the program design of the Patient Support Corps. Therefore, the Academic Coordinator duties include but are not limited to: helping the Faculty Director to recruit, onboard, train, deploy, supervise, and evaluate pre- baccalaureate student interns. The Academic Coordinator duties also include but are not limited to helping Dr. Belkora implement, monitor, evaluate, and improve on the program's financial infrastructure (e.g. service level agreements with clinical placement sites); legal infrastructure (e.g. student responsibility statements about privacy, legal, and risk management issues); training infrastructure (e.g. curriculum for student job-readiness training); implementation infrastructure (e.g. program manuals and databases); and evaluation infrastructure (e.g. registry tracking educational and career outcomes of student interns and alumni). In summary, this is a stimulating position in which the Academic Coordinator will assist the Faculty Director both with design, maintenance, and evaluation of our innovative program infrastructure; as well as implementation and evaluation of our innovative program service delivery.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) by the time of hire.
