About the Job

Responsibilities
60 - Application Development
- Code applications, systems, or websites based on detailed specifications.
- Test, debug, enhance, and provide ongoing maintenance of applications, systems, or websites based on detailed specifications.
- Create readable, scalable, testable, and maintainable source code utilizing best practices
- Write unit and feature tests for new and/or existing application features
- Follow university guidelines for accessibility and security and remediate gaps following detailed specifications
- Track progress in Asana (project management tool).

30% - Consulting, Support, & Documentation
- Consult with stakeholders on application, system, or website requirements.
- Provide excellent technical support, instruction, and training for CSE customers.
- Troubleshoot application, system, or website issues, evaluating and following through on incidents and problems until resolved or escalated.
- Perform manual and automated testing of applications during all phases of the software lifecycle
- Create and maintain user-facing and IT-facing documentation.
- Provide ongoing maintenance of applications, systems, or websites including routine system maintenance tasks involving scripts, logs, and administrative interfaces.

10% - Collaboration & Professional Development
- Participate in related CSE and University professional groups and/or Communities of Practice to ensure the needs and interests of the College are represented.
- Contribute to, understand, and carry out the IT@UMN vision and strategy.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
- A BA/BS degree in a field related to the position; or a combination of related education and work experience in the areas of application/web/systems development to equal four years.
- Ability and motivation to collaborate effectively with a team.
- Strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
- Experience with PHP or Python.
- Experience with Linux or Mac operating systems and performing command-line operations
- Experience with revision control systems, especially Git or GitHub.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working as part of a Scrum Development Team.
- Experience developing and providing support for secure and accessible web-based applications.
- Past coursework or experience that includes software engineering, database systems, and user interface design as it relates to web usability, accessibility and/or security.
- Experience with Unit and/or Feature Testing.
- Experience with PHP frameworks such as Laravel.
- Experience with HTML and CSS.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $31.25 - $34.85/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
