About the Job

The University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine is accepting applications for a short-term temporary position to assist with an increase in the number of DVM students
and spay/neuter surgeries in upcoming spay/neuter clinical rotations (UMSN).

The UMSN clinical rotations run for two weeks each, with assistance needed during rotation days that include surgeries: Tuesday - Thursday (Week 1 of rotation) and Monday-Thursday (Week 2 of rotation) from 8:30AM - 3:00PM.

February 17, 2025 - February 28, 2025
March 31, 2025 - April 11, 2025
April 14, 2025 - April 25, 2026
1-2 hour debrief session after 4/25/25, scheduled based on availability

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide DVM student instruction on Spay/Neuter Clinical Rotation - 100%
* Instruct 4th year veterinary students in physical examination, general surgery skills,
and anesthetic delivery on dogs and cats provided by local rescue groups and
humane societies.
* Provide medical care to animals experiencing surgical and other complications
* Train students in animal care, restraint, and handling
* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

DVM (or equivalent degree), active Minnesota Veterinary license in good standing, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills and experience and interest in teaching
DVM students. History of high quality, high volume spay neuter and shelter medicine experience preferred.

About the Department

The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department provides instruction to veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students. We also improve the health of companion animals by educating veterinarians, providing medical and surgical services, and generating new knowledge through clinical research.

Teaching

Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members are responsible for a significant portion of the clinical training program for third- and fourth-year veterinary students, as well as small animal internship and residency programs. Faculty members also participate in the veterinary medicine and comparative and molecular biosciences graduate programs.

Research

Faculty and staff are actively involved in clinical and basic research, as well as specialized programs such as the Animal Cancer Care and Research program, Minnesota Urolith Center, and Surgical Research Laboratory. Research efforts are supported by the Clinical Investigation Center, which coordinates clinical trials.

Service

Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members provide clinical services in the Veterinary Medical Center and offer consultations and continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians in the community.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $100/hr to $140/hr: depending on education/qualifications/experience.
