About the Job

This is a 100% on-site position that will support the research programs and projects for faculty from the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Regions Hospital. This will be a University of Minnesota position that will support research mainly occurring at Regions Hospital. There will be a small need to provide research support at other sites such as Mercy Hospital and Methodist Hospital. This position is intended for an individual with an interest in clinical research, with an intension to develop a career in healthcare research, or a related field. This position will provide opportunity for development based on individual qualifications and desire for growth. This position is a temporary role with the possibility of continuation depending on funding and work performance. Below is a breakdown of this position's major responsibilities, other duties may be assigned as needed.

Research Project Support - 60% of tim

  • Assist investigators in fulfilling needs of research protocols and remain on targeted timelines
  • Screen, enroll, and recruit/consent subjects per current research protocols and ensure complete and accurate data collection. This includes regularly speaking to patients
  • Protect the rights of research subjects via execution of informed consent and compliance with HIPPA requirements
  • Monitor progress of study participants including completing follow-up callbacks and coordinating clinic visit scheduling
  • Support preparation and submission of IRB applications, informed consent documents, and data collection forms as well as completing continuing review and study close out reports
  • Support regulatory and sponsor reports
  • Assure compliance with all regulations and sponsor stipulations as necessary
  • Maintain organized and up to date study files (electronic and paper) for research projects
  • Maintain strong focus on data security, ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive research information and follow data handling protocols
  • Preparation and submission of publications and presentations

Patient Reported Outcomes Program - 15% of time

  • Weekly screen and enroll operative cases for qualifying cases
  • Key support for data quality review and improvement
  • Monitor and optimize capture rate
  • Quarterly reports to department on key performance metrics (KPMs)
  • Identify bright spots and facilitate process optimization
  • Interest in the development of technology to improve research in orthopaedics

Research Administration - 15% of time

  • Key role in producing the department's bi-annual research report
  • Assist in development of research resources and program initiatives
  • Maintain accurate list and status of research activities within area of responsibility
  • Track and record metrics into databases, spreadsheets, and reporting mechanisms
  • Timely coordination and distribution of research meeting minutes
  • Support miscellaneous administrative duties and assignments as requested

Other Responsibilities - 10% of time

  • Assist with literature searches and reference database management
  • Assist with creation and dissemination of bi-annual research update report
  • Assist with preparing presentations related to research projects and activities
  • Correspond with sponsors and collaborators as applicable
  • Protect patient confidentiality
  • Comply with safety guidelines and safe work practices
  • Facilitate and communicate information as necessary pertaining to research activities in the orthopaedic department
  • Support special assignments and projects as requested
Qualifications

Required (must be listed on resume):

  • BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
  • Desire/ability to gain medical/anatomical knowledg
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office programs: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with IRB process and compliance rules pertaining to research, confidentiality, and HIPAA
  • High proficiency in written and oral English language skills
  • Prior experience in writing of scientific reports
  • Experience in a healthcare environmen
  • Previous experience with clinical outcomes research and patient care
  • Creative/artistic tendency

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $48,156-$53,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
