About the Department:

The mission of the Law & Economics Center (LEC) is to serve as a nexus for research and education focused on economic analysis of the legal and public policy issues confronting policymakers. Since its inception in 1974, the LEC has recognized the importance of timely, relevant research finding to those who shape policy decisions. The LEC is committed to developing original, high-quality law and economics research and education programs that enhance economic understanding and provide a consistent, rational voice that bolsters today's policy discussions.

About the Position:

The Program Assistant is responsible for supporting the LEC by managing educational programs for academics, lawyers, government authorities, judges, attorneys general, and solicitors general within one or more of its five divisions. Working closely with all LEC Assistant Directors, Program Managers, and other Program Assistants, the LEC Program Assistant recruits program attendees; markets LEC educational programs; handles program registrations and databases; acts as primary contact for participants of assigned programs; tracks event timeline and task lists; prepares content for websites, social media and marketing materials; prepares event materials; provides assistance with on-site program success including handling program close out activities; and provides regular reports on assigned activities and events.

Responsibilities:

Administrative Support for Program Planning, Coordination, and Management



  • Provides program marketing and recruiting;
  • Creates event timelines and task lists;
  • Communicates with participants and speakers, including notifying speakers of speaking date and time, length of presentation, etc.;
  • Prepares event materials; on-site program presence to ensure program success;
  • Provides event follow-up and reporting;
  • Builds, monitors and updates program event sites in Cvent and assists others in understanding how to build and utilize event sites;
  • Supports innovation and creativity in recruiting methods including, but not limited to, managing a LinkedIn account for communication and outreach to potential attendees; and
  • Creates webinar event websites and support of live webinars.


Event Financial Duties



  • Prepares and completes program-based travel reimbursements, honoraria, expense requests, and program closeout.


Database Management, Maintenance, and Analytics



  • Ensures that databases are updated regularly with accurate contact information;
  • Extracts, loads, and analyzes data from the event database;
  • Generates reports to focus on identifying trends and patterns to determine success or failure of recruiting methods; and
  • Generates reports that contribute to the understanding of how to manage program attrition.


Other Related Duties as Assigned



  • Performs other related duties that help the LEC achieve their objectives and goals and/or supports the overall mission of the LEC as determined by senior leadership.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Some experience in an events, administrative support, or other administrative role (typically 1-2 years);
  • Strong database experience;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Superior skills with Microsoft Office products;
  • Professional demeanor with strong and effective written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with high-level professionals;
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities effectively;
  • Highly self-motivated, detail oriented, accuracy driven; and
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends, as well as travel independently.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with legal professionals, higher education, or policy makers;
  • Knowledge of Cvent, WordPress, and Adobe Suite; and
  • Knowledge of GMU Foundation procedures and policies.
