Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a
SQL Programmer for the Institute for Families at the School of Social Work.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Creates stored procedures with parameters, transactions and exception handling.
- Creates tables, views and functions.
- Writes queries with multiple joins.
- Handles data imports, exports and file management with SSIS.
- Searches metadata to find relevant columns and tables required for new reports.
- Implements version control policies for code management and technical documentation.
- Implements and documents policies for scheduled database backups and conduct periodic database recovery tests.
- Works proactively with system administrators on management of disk space and performance.
- Collaborates with IT professionals to ensure a smooth data preparation process across Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL platforms.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Eight (8) years of relevant professional experience as a database administrator/programmer, including use of SQL or other database management systems, familiarity with programming languages commonly used for database interaction and application development.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with SSIS Packages - SQL Server Integration Services, PHP, JavaScript, Drupal, Visio.
- Geocoding knowledge - SQL Server Geography data type handling, ARCGIS Pro Geocoding tool, Microsoft Visual Studio Professional, Microsoft Visual Studio Code.
- Experience with macros and VBA.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Ability to derive technical solutions from non-technical business requirements.
- Experience documenting mappings between user-defined terms and database columns.
- Ability to work at times with limited supervision.
- Excellent communication skills in order to provide daily status updates, identify problematic results, identify and address exception cases that are likely to arise, and confirm understanding of requirements.
